FC Barcelona has a long road ahead in this transfer window to secure several of the targets they’ve set for the summer. One of Deco’s main objectives is to bring in a number 9 to serve as Lewandowski’s successor and elevate the level of competition within the squad. However, signing a proven striker won’t be easy given the club’s current financial situation.
Recently, RAC1 reported that it’s not guaranteed that Barça will be able to comply with La Liga’s 1:1 rule on July 1st—meaning for every euro saved in salary, they can spend another. La Liga has doubts about one of Barça’s VIP box sales and wants to prorate the income over the duration of the agreement. This could once again prevent Barcelona from operating normally in the transfer market, forcing them to make sales and potentially lose out on several key targets due to their price tags.
A Record-Breaking Lewandowski at Barça
Robert Lewandowski is enjoying a second youth this season with FC Barcelona—an indisputable fact. The Polish striker has netted 32 goals and provided 3 assists in 34 games. Recently, he matched the record of a club legend. Lewandowski scored 20 goals in 23 La Liga matches during the 2024/25 season—the highest goal tally by a player in their first 23 games of a season since Lionel Messi’s 20 goals in 2018/19, both with FC Barcelona.
If he finishes as La Liga’s top scorer this season at 36 years, 9 months, and 3 days old, he would become the second-oldest player in history to achieve this feat in the Spanish League. He would also rank as the third-oldest player to finish as top scorer in any major European league.
Newcastle Have No Fears About Isak
As Barça looks for a top-level striker, one name has emerged strongly: Alexander Isak. According to journalist José Álvarez from “El Chiringuito,” Isak is the main target for Barça this summer.
“There’s a player that Barça’s sporting management is in love with, someone that Laporta and his entire board believe will be the icing on the cake for this great Barça squad. In addition to signing a central defender, they are planning to reinforce other positions, with their main target for the summer being Newcastle’s Alexander Isak,” Álvarez revealed.
Newcastle has placed a €180 million price tag on Isak—a figure they believe will deter most clubs. However, if Newcastle fails to qualify for the Champions League, they may be willing to let him go for around €100 million. Isak has attracted strong interest from Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, according to Sport.
Marseille Rate Greenwood Highly
Isak isn’t the only name on Barça’s agenda. According to talkSPORT, the club is also considering Mason Greenwood, who impressed during his spell at Getafe. Greenwood, 23, has become a key player at Olympique de Marseille under Roberto De Zerbi’s management. He has scored 15 goals in 24 matches this season and has established himself as a vital part of the French side.
A report from talkSPORT claims that Marseille has set a €75 million sale price for Greenwood, with Manchester United entitled to 50% of any potential transfer fee.
