Official Real Madrid lineup vs. Borussia Dortmund

Since Hansi Flick took over as Barça coach, several players have experienced a kind of resurgence, offering outstanding performances. One of them is Frenkie De Jong. The Dutchman is a starter for the coach, ahead of Marc Casadó in the centre midfield position. The footballer’s situation at FC Barcelona has gone through many phases in recent months. At first the player was aiming to leave FC Barcelona, then he did a 180º turn on his initial idea and thought about renewing his contract, which still lasts for another year and a half.

In the last few hours it has been learned that Deco has already begun talks with the footballer’s agents to discuss his renewal. As Sport reports, “the Barça sporting director met with the Dutchman’s agent, Ali Dursun, on February 19, and presented him with a new renewal proposal.” According to the aforementioned source, this offer would be for three seasons, but without a salary increase. His current emoluments are around 18-19 million gross per year. The club is optimistic that De Jong will accept this offer and that the rumors about his possible departure will end.

De Jong, with girlfriends in the Premier League

At the moment, the most likely scenario is that the midfielder will extend his contract with the Catalan club, but De Jong has options to leave the club if he decides otherwise. Specifically, in the Premier League, Liverpool and Arsenal want him. The favorite to win the Champions League, according to IA, the Red Devils, would be very interested in signing Frenkie de Jong next summer. Arsenal have joined the bidding for De Jong, who could be looking for a change of scenery, for around €35 million. Both clubs, with great economic power and sporting ambition, are prepared to compete for the Dutch international, in what could be an interesting battle in the summer market if the Dutchman’s contract renewal is not completed.
