Ronald Araújo’s departure is taking shape: a new suitor emerges

FC Barcelona wants to have its homework done before the summer market arrives. We are not talking so much about signings, as the club’s financial situation does not allow it to make big moves, at least without giving out players; but rather that the Blaugrana team is working hard to finalise several renewals.

The first, now official, was that of Araujo. In addition to this, Barça has also tied down the long-term continuity of Cubarsí, Pedri, Gavi and Fermín. Now, they had set themselves two objectives during the month of March, which were to seal two others that they had had in the pipeline for weeks: Robert Lewandowski and Íñigo Martínez.

In the case of the central defender, his renewal became official yesterday. “FC Barcelona has exercised the option to extend the contract of first team player Iñigo Martinez, who will remain with the Club until June 30, 2026. The agreement between the two parties had already been reached months ago, but was pending registration with the Professional Football League (LFP). FC Barcelona wants to publicly express its satisfaction after ensuring the continuity of the Basque defender for another season,” the Catalan club announced.

With Íñigo Martínez renewed for another year, Barça is already working on the next task on the list: renewing Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker will stay at Barça for another season and it is expected to be made official after the next international break.

When he signed with Barça, he did so until 2026 under a series of conditions. These stipulated that, after several salary increases, in the last year it would drop back to 26 million. A final year that, according to the clause stipulated in the contract, Barça would have the right to terminate if, in his third year as a Barça player, Lewandowski did not play 55% of the matches. In the league match against Rayo Vallecano, Robert Lewandowski exceeded the percentage of official matches necessary to automatically activate the renewal clause.

With the Polish striker about to renew, the other two extensions that are already being worked on in the Barça offices are the signing of Lamine Yamal when he comes of age and the renewal of Frenkie De Jong.

In the case of the youth player, there would be a pre-agreement to renew the contract, extending the relationship until 2030, but the new contract would not be signed until the player turns 18 (July 13, 2025). The most important part of the new contract, if the club wants to retain the player, will be the salary that he will receive. Some media outlets suggest that Barcelona’s offer would be between 7 and 8 million euros.

In the case of the Dutch midfielder, the offer was for three seasons, but without a salary increase. His current earnings are around 18-19 million gross per year.
