The qualifying for the Australian F1 GP has laid the cards on the table, revealing evidence we already knew and a few surprises. McLaren, as expected, are ahead of the rest, Ferrari are further behind than expected and Williams have stepped up.
McLaren, one step ahead of the rest
McLaren managed to set the first and second fastest times with Norris in the lead and Piastri close behind. It was to be expected that they would be leading the grid, but it has become clear that they are one step ahead of the rest. It is surprising that Ferrari, who was expected to be their rival, is so far behind: Leclerc is 6 tenths behind and Hamilton 8 tenths behind
Verstappen has once again shown that he is the best driver on the grid. It is clear that Red Bull is far from the best, but the Dutchman has managed to put his Red Bull in third position.
Carlos Sainz, ahead of Alonso
In the duel of Spaniards, Carlos Sainz managed to qualify in tenth position, two places above Fernando Alonso. The Madrid driver managed to get the Williams into Q3, something that the Spaniard from Asturias did not achieve. He went out in Q2, damaged the car and was unable to confirm the good sensations he had left in Q1.
However, both teams have left a good impression. Carlos Sainz’s Williams is where we have seen it in qualifying and Aston Martin has taken a step forward, which has not been reflected by Alonso’s mistake.
Australian F1 GP
The first Formula 1 GP of the year still has surprises in store for us. Tomorrow it will rain, we don’t know if it will rain during the race, but it is known that it will rain on the circuit at some point during the day, a factor that could turn the race upside down. We will see how it affects the race, especially the rookies, of which there are many, and facing the rain in their first race can be a real challenge.
