FC Barcelona is now facing a decisive part of the season in the fight for the treble, but in the offices Deco is already working with an eye on the transfer market, for which he has several clear objectives to reinforce a squad that is already performing at a high level this season. There are two clear priorities for the Barça squad, although more cannot be ruled out
The first of these, agreed between Deco and the German coach, is to sign a left-footed winger, something they already tried last summer. The winger is a wish that has been on the list since the last summer market and which, with several candidates on the horizon, they hope to seal in the coming months. The ideal would be a versatile player who could also act as a substitute for Lewandowski, who is enjoying a second youth, but is still almost 37 years old.
Although before there are names, or the name of Nico Williams, who was the big wish for 2024, reappears, there is already talk of a price of around €60-70 million. The favorite on a long list that is beginning to emerge is Luis Díaz. The Liverpool player is Deco’s favorite for the Barça squad, but the competition and the price are one of the main problems for the Catalan team.
The other main objective for the Catalans on the transfer market is to sign a right back. In that position there is an undisputed starter, Jules Koundé, and a replacement, Hector Fort, who still does not convince the club, even though, in his few appearances this season, the 18-year-old defender has not made any serious mistakes.
The French full-back is becoming one of the best in the world and is an undisputed first choice for Hansi Flick. A Flick who, on the other hand, has already punished him on several occasions for not complying with the rules that the coach sets and which he is very demanding in enforcing.
Beyond the fact that Barça wants a guaranteed replacement for the right back, the French player has several powerful suitors on the market who, given the economic situation of the Barça team, are a clear threat if they put a succulent amount of money on the table, although everything indicates that the full-back will renew until 2030. Among the names that have been mentioned, Marc Pubill is one of the favorites.
That said, any maneuver by the club is subject to compliance with Financial Fair Play. Barça’s economic situation has improved slightly, but the application of the 1:1 rule is in doubt and we will have to wait a few months to see what moves the culés may make.
