For individuals who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, it is important to know when the Social Security Administration is planning to make payments. The SSDI payment schedule is based on your birthdate and when you first started receiving these benefits.

So far, two SSDI payments have already been sent out this month and two more payments are pending before the month ends.

How SSDI Payment Dates are Determined

The Social Security Administration sends out SSDI payments according to a structured schedule depending on two factors as mentioned earlier.

  1. If you started receiving SSDI before May 1997, then you should receive payments on the 3rd of each month.
  2. If you started receiving SSDI after May 1997, the date you received payments is based on your birthdate as detailed below;
  • Born between 1st-10th– Payment should be received on the second Wednesday of the month.
  • Born between 11th-20th– Payment should be received on the third Wednesday of the month.
  • Born between 21st-31st– Payment should be received on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

SSDI Payment Schedule for March 2025

Below are the dates beneficiaries of SSDI should expect to receive payments based on several criteria.

  • March 3- Started to receive SSDI before May 1997.
  • March 12- birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.
  • March 19- Birthdays between 11th and 20th.
  • March 26- Birthdays between 21st and 31st.

If you haven’t received SSDI benefits yet, then be patient because the payments might arrive on one of these scheduled dates depending on the day you were born.

 How SSDI Payments Are Affected by COLA

The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025 introduces a 2.5% increase in SSDI benefits but the exact amount of increase depends on an individual’s current benefit and any additional income earned. On average, SSDI beneficiaries should expect around a $48 increase per month as a result of the COLA adjustment.

Actions to Take if Your SSDI Payment is Late or Missing

Since most SSDI payments are sent through direct deposit to your bank, you should check with your bank first if your SSDI check is missing yet your scheduled day to receive them has passed. You can also be patient for at least three days because sometimes payments are delayed. You can also contact SSA via 1-800-772-121 or visit your local SSA office.

SSDI Payment Dates for April

For those who like planning, here are the dates when your April SSDI payments will be disbursed;

  • April 3 – For those receiving SSDI since before May 1997.
  • April 9 – For those with birthdays between the 1st and 10th.
  • April 16 – For those with birthdays between the 11th and 20th.
  • April 23 – For those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st.

Conclusion

Beneficiaries of SSDI need to understand the payment schedule to stay on top of their finances and avoid any financial surprises or stress. If you haven’t received your March SSDI check yet, you should check the schedule and see when your payment is due depending on your birth date.

Otherwise, be rest assured that your payment will still come unless unforeseen issues are causing the delay. In case of such issues, always check with your bank first, then with Security Administration where need be. Additionally, you should not be surprised if you receive an increased amount this year because that could mean you are one of the lucky individuals to be affected by the 2025 COLA.
