The reform of the Camp Nou as part of the ambitious Espai Barça project has Barça fans on tenterhooks. FC Barcelona supporters are thinking of returning to their stadium with a capacity reduced to 60% (which is expected at the end of the current season). A wish that seems unlikely to be fulfilled.
Barça will not return to the Camp Nou this season. It’s official. The club has sent all its members and season ticket holders an extension to the end of the season. Until this decision was made, the possibility of playing El Clasico at the Camp Nou in May was still on the table, but that option has now been ruled out.
We are pleased to announce that the extension of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys 24/25 season ticket has been extended to include the men’s first team league and UEFA Champions League matches played until the end of the 24/25 season. If you would like to extend the season ticket you have already purchased to include these new matches, you can do so by clicking on the following link,” the club said in an email to its members.
The work is progressing well and although it would be possible to return in May with a capacity of 63,000, it was not worth stopping the work, dismantling the cranes and cleaning the accesses for three games. The club are now confident that the pitch, along with the associated irrigation and heating systems, will be in place by the end of April next year.
A few hours after the news was announced, Barça received more good news regarding the transformation of their stadium. The club has been granted permission to work with machinery 24 hours a day, both inside and outside the Camp Nou, from Tuesday 25 March to Monday 7 April.
The measure, which was approved by Barcelona City Council following an agreement with the residents of Les Corts after receiving the request at the end of January, could be extended if it is verified that there is no disturbance in terms of noise or light pollution. The City Council will supervise the work to ensure that the conditions requested by FC Barcelona and Limak Construction, the company in charge of the stadium’s transformation, are met.
