Real Madrid are not having a good season when it comes to their defense. The Whites have a problem in the defensive area that goes back to a not entirely efficient management of resources in the back line, added to a plague of injuries that has led to the infirmary for several months practically all the starters in the Merengue defense.
As for the right back, Dani Carvajal suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, rupture of the external collateral ligament and rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg on October 6th. It is hoped that the footballer will be available for next season, but it is unknown how he will return and whether he will be able to recover to the level he was performing at.
In his absence, the club put its trust in Lucas Vázquez. The Galician full-back has been surpassed by an excellent Fede Valverde who has exposed the poor performance of the Cuntis-born player. The loss of Carvajal and the lack of signings by Florentino Pérez have allowed him to take the starting position on the right wing, but his numbers show what happens to Ancelotti’s team with him on the field. In all of Ancelotti’s defeats this season, except for the Champions League match against Lille, Lucas Vázquez was a starter. Real Madrid are looking for a right back for next season.
Arnold, the big favorite
The need to sign someone for the right wing of the defense is a reality and there is a clear favorite. Trent Alexander-Arnold will end up at the Santiago Bernabéu, barring a major surprise. The Englishman’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the current season and everything indicates that he will not renew it. He would arrive as a free agent after the attempted signings in the winter market in which Real Madrid offered 15 million that Liverpool rejected in the face of what the whites did not want to make any more financial effort aware that in summer he will be theirs at zero cost.
Agreement closed
According to Sky Sports Switzerland, Madrid and Alexander-Arnold have already reached an agreement for the player’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu. He would have a wage of 15 million euros a year and would also receive a signing on bonus. The contract would be for five or six seasons.
