De Jong’s future at Barça has been making the news for months. The situation has been changing until now when a renewal seems to be the chosen option. The player went from being in the pool of players to be sold, to returning to perform at the highest level under the orders of Hansi Flick for whom he has become an undisputed player. The Dutchman has several offers on the table to leave, but he still has a contract with the Catalans with whom he is now negotiating a renewal.

According to Sport a few days ago, the offer was for three seasons, but without a pay rise. His current salary is around 18-19 million gross per year.

In the last few hours, new information about the renewal has been released. The aforementioned source says that Barça has a plan to meet De Jong’s financial demands. These financial demands are intended to be linked to sporting performance. In other words, “Barça would guarantee the player a fixed amount less than what he receives now, but would increase the variable payments (games played, titles won, etc.) to match the current figure,” says Sport.

Now, the possibility of including a termination clause of 80 million euros has been published. The figure is affordable if the player maintains his current level of performance over the next few years.

De Jong is popular in the Premier League

Liverpool and Arsenal want him. The Premier League leaders would be very interested in signing Frenkie de Jong next summer. Arsenal have joined the bidding for the Dutch player who could change his scenery for a figure close to €35 M.

Both clubs, with great economic power and sporting ambition, are prepared to compete for the signature of the Dutch international, in what could be an interesting battle in the summer market if the Dutchman’s renewal is not completed.
