Ronald Araújo’s departure is taking shape: a new suitor emerges

FC Barcelona are already feeling the pressure for the LaLiga title with the match against Girona this Sunday (4:15 pm at Montjuic). After getting three points against Osasuna and Real Madrid‘s victory against Leganés on Saturday night, Hansi Flick‘s team are still at the top of the table, but level on points with the co-leaders Real Madrid.

How FC Barcelona and Girona are getting on

Against Girona, the azulgranas will be without Dani Olmo for three weeks due to an adductor injury that saw him leave the field in the 25th minute of the game. They will have to deal with a very busy schedule in the coming weeks, playing up to four games in less than two weeks, so they are considering giving some players a rest.

The truth is that everything points to there being even more, especially considering that next Wednesday they will be playing for a place in the final of the Copa del Rey, and against a rival as strong and direct as Atlético de Madrid, at the Metropolitano, and with a 4-4 lead that forces the Blaugrana to go for the win

It is here that on this matchday 29 of LaLiga, FC Barcelona faces the match in good spirits to channel a winning streak after winning the last two matches against Atlético de Madrid away from home and against Osasuna at home by 4-2 and 3-0, respectively. Since the start of the competition, the home team has won 20 of the 28 matches played so far with a goal difference of 78-27. However, not many changes were expected to Hansi Flick’s most used starting eleven, with the exception of the aforementioned Dani Olmo and the inclusion of Iñigo Martínez, now recovered from the injury that caused him to ‘disappear’ from Luis de la Fuente’s last Spain squad.

On the Girona side, Míchel’s Girona face the Catalan derby in a very different situation to last season when they were comfortably placed in European places. The Blanc-i-Vermells are 13th in the league standings, seven above the relegation zone and six points from Europe. They are in a bad run of form, with only two wins from 12 games in 2025, and a streak of six consecutive games without a win.

In any case, and after drawing against Valencia last matchday, Míchel’s team is looking to consolidate their position in European places. Their offensive play and courage have made Girona an uncomfortable opponent for any big team, including FC Barcelona.

Confirmed absences

As for the absences for both teams, and although the Catalans will be without the sensitive Dani Olmo, Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona have recovered Raphinha for this match, who was not on the list against Osasuna, due to the fatigue of coming back from playing with the Brazilian national team. In addition to Dani Olmo, Ter Stegen, Christensen, Casadó and Bernal are also out.

As for the Girona team, the Penyes (supporters’ clubs) have several important absences. One of them is Donny van de Beek, who will not be able to play for Míchel due to an accumulation of yellow cards, while Brian Gil, Iván Martín and Ricard Artero are still injured. John Solís and Oriol Romeu will also not be ready due to the fear clause, which aggravates Girona’s aspirations against FC Barcelona and complicates a match in which they need to score points in order not to lose touch with Europe or flirt with relegation in an increasingly compressed league.

FC Barcelona lineup

Goalkeeper: Szczesny

Defense: Araujo, Koundé, Iñigo Martínez, Gerard Martín

Midfield: Gavi, Pedri, Eric García

Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski, Fermín
