Luka Modric is in his thirteenth season at Real Madrid and it might not be his last. The first captain of the Whites wants to continue his stay at the Santiago Bernabéu and sign a contract extension for at least another year. He has earned his place on the pitch, especially in recent weeks. The Croatian is tireless and everything seems to indicate that he will continue to play until he wants to play.
According to a report by ‘Squawka’, Modric, despite having started only 11 games, has created at least 3 more clear chances than any other Real Madrid player in LaLiga this season. In fact, according to the report, Modric has created 14 big chances in just 1,255 minutes played, with a total of 46 chances created and 4 assists to his name despite having fewer minutes than Mbappé or Vinicius, for example.
The two big stars of Real Madrid are behind Modric in this statistical section. Mbappé, with 11 chances created, and Vinicius with 9, are second and third, respectively, on this list. Modric’s ability to control the pace of the game and pick out his teammates with precise passes has been a hallmark of his career, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
“Modric is a gift to football. He has to continue until he wants to because he does what he does very well. Real Madrid is lucky to have a legend who has defined an era and football, a great gift for his quality and professionalism,” said Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago.
Modric is still a fundamental part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team and has adapted perfectly to his new role. Luka no longer starts every game, but he is always there when he is needed and his level is still spectacular.
Modric wants to retire at Real Madrid
Luka Modric was the guest on TF1’s Telefoot program. In his interview, the midfielder, who will turn 40 in September, said he would love to retire at Real Madrid, although for the moment he is only looking to the present.
“Right now I’m not thinking about retirement. But as I’ve always said, I’d like to retire at Real Madrid, which would be a dream for me. There’s still a long season ahead and I want to focus on what’s left, because there are a lot of games left. We’ll see what happens. I’m in no hurry,” he began by saying.
And he revealed that “we haven’t talked about my renewal yet. At the end of the season I will meet with the directors to see what is best for the club and for me.”
