Alonso has a new Verstappen F1 record within reach

FC Barcelona have gone 20 matches without defeat in 2025, with a record of 17 wins. The last two wins came this week, on Thursday against Osasuna and on Sunday against Girona, both matches displaying their great offensive power.

A second-half brace from Robert Lewandowski allowed Barcelona to continue to reduce the gap on the league title after defeating Girona 4-1, a score completed by Ferran Torres and opened by Ladislav Krejci’s own goal.

A great dynamic in which what stands out most is the offensive capacity of the Azulgrana. The goals scored by Hansi Flick’s team are distributed as follows: 82 goals in LaLiga EA Sports, 32 goals in the UEFA Champions League, being the team with the most goals so far in this edition of the tournament, 18 in the Copa del Rey and seven in the Spanish Super Cup.

These figures have made Barça the team in the major European leagues that has most improved its goal-scoring record from one season to the next. At this stage of the league season (with 29 matchdays played) Xavi’s players had scored 54 goals. Flick’s side have now accumulated 87 goals. That’s 23 more goals compared to the same stage last season.

With the win against Girona, it is now 20 games in which the Barça team has scored four or more goals in all competitions. Another fact that reflects that Barça are scoring goals is that so far in the 2024-25 season, they have won 44% of their games (20 out of 45) scoring four or more goals.

In search of an attacking reinforcement

Despite these devastating figures, as we approach the final stretch of the season, it will be time to think about the transfer market that is just around the corner. Given the economic situation of the Catalans, Deco’s job is arduous and several bands since he must close outgoings and renewals that improve fair play in order to be able to incorporate players. One of the profiles they are looking for for the summer is an attacking midfielder.

FC Barcelona are closely monitoring a long list of players with the aim of strengthening their left winger position. The favourite on a long list that is starting to sound is Luis Díaz. But they are also looking for Lewandowski’s heir.

Ferran is in the running

Ferran Torres put himself forward as the future FC Barcelona center forward. The former Valencia player took advantage of the media day to accept the challenge of replacing Robert Lewandowski. “I can be Barça’s starting center forward,” he said.

“I have confidence in myself and I can be the starting center forward for FC Barcelona, why not?” he rhetorically asked himself. ‘If the club thinks it has to look for someone else, fine, welcome, but I can handle the competition very well,’ he stressed.

His numbers back him up.

New target for the offensive side

Barça are still chasing Hugo Ekitike, the French striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, who has scored 19 goals in 38 games this season. Standing at 1.90 meters tall, the striker is known for his physical power, goal scoring efficiency and mobility. The Catalans are not the only ones interested, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle are all teams that would like to snatch the Frenchman from the Catalans.

In fact, it is said that the ‘red devils’ could have the advantage in the race for the Frankfurt star, as the footballer is said to have been a fan of the Manchester team since childhood. His transfer price would be between 30 and 35 million euros, an affordable amount considering that his market value is 40 million, according to ‘Transfermarkt’. However, other sources point to an initial price of 80 million, which would complicate the operation.
