Even though Hansi Flick wants to take it one game at a time and keep his feet on the ground. FC Barcelona‘s good run of form means that the treble is constantly on the minds of the Culés. That is the objective and it seems increasingly achievable given the performance of Hansi Flick’s team. Barça went into the Champions League tie with an almost perfect 2025 record, with 18 wins and 4 draws that have lifted them to the top of LaLiga and to the final of the Copa del Rey where they will face Real Madrid, their closest pursuer in the domestic competition, 4 points below them.
In the first leg of the quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund in Montjuic, Barça maintained their good form, leaving the tie up for grabs after beating the Bavarian side with a hefty 4-0 scoreline with goals from their lethal trident, the LRL, made up of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski.
Barça starts by laying siege
Barça started by calling the shots in attack against a Borussia side that pulled back well as soon as they lost the ball, aware of the danger of the azulgrana team. First the home side tried with Raphinha putting in a ball from the baseline, but Bensebaini prevented Fermín from getting a clear shot. Shortly afterwards Lamine Yamal had a chance, cutting in with great class in the area and firing a shot across goal. Kobel made a great save to stop the first shot on goal from the Catalans.
It was a Barça siege that was being experienced in the early stages at Montjuic. The young winger had another chance with a pass to Bensebaini, but Lamine took a chance with hardly any angle when Fermín and a Robert Lewandowski were waiting for him, who almost immediately finished first time at the front post with a pass from Raphinha. It came out centred and Kobel saved. The German team shook off the initial siege a little with some dangerous approaches to Szczesny’s area.
Barça open the scoring
The Blaugrana’s insistence paid off in the 25th minute. It was a goal with suspense as Cubarsí shot high and Raphinha threw himself at the ball to prevent it from going out of play. The VAR checked the position of the Brazilian, which, although very tight, was considered legal. The top scorer in the Champions League did not miss his chance to score.
From the goal until the break, Barça struggled against a Borussia side who wanted the draw. Guirassy tried, as did Chukwuemeka with a blocked shot and then Bittens, who was too timid. The goal didn’t come, but the first half was a bit long for Hansi Flick’s side, who went into the break in the lead.
Lewandowski seals it
The second half could not have started better for Barça, who extended their lead on the scoreboard shortly after the start. The attacking trio came together to score the second. Lamine crossed, Raphinha headed to the far post and the Polish Robert Lewandowski pushed it in. After a Fermin block, the Polish killer appeared again to seal the deal. Barça did everything right. Lamine played the ball to Fermín, who took a moment to think and gifted the goal to Lewandowski.
Lamine joins the party
It seemed as if Barça could do even more damage and finish it off today. And so it was, young Lamine Yamal didn’t want to be without a goal. Lewandowski made the centre-back doubt him as he went for the duel, cleared badly and Raphinha was left with the chance to launch the counter-attack. He played the pass at the right moment and Lamine finished with a nice touch of the toe.
With the game as good as over, Hansi Flick took the opportunity to give Ansu Fati some minutes on the pitch as he returned to the field of play months later. Borussia wanted to reduce the deficit. This time they did score, but there was an offside in the previous action. Duranville had not forgiven. There was no time for more and FC Barcelona were one foot and a half in the semifinals.
