The performance of Hansi Flick‘s Barça continues to delight fans and break historic club records. The Azulgrana are top of LaLiga and have their destiny in their own hands. They currently have a four-point lead over Real Madrid, whom they will face in the Copa del Rey final.
This great performance has been based mainly, as the German coach pointed out in his press conference after beating Atlético Madrid, on the word team. Barça is a close-knit group and has a strong bench that has allowed it to avoid difficulties throughout the season due to injuries or rotations required by the demanding schedule.
One of those team players, one of those players with depth, is Eric Garcia. The player, who can play as a center back or defensive midfielder, is one of Flick’s most used alternatives, as the German coach is very fond of him. Eric Garcia, a player whose contract also expires in 2026 and who seemed more likely to leave than stay, but the German is clear that he wants him to renew.
He already asked him in January, closing the door on a loan move – Girona pushed hard – and now he has demanded that the sporting director sign him on a long-term deal. Barça would be willing to keep the 24-year-old, although, as is the case with several of his teammates, financial needs are pressing and a good offer could take them away from the Camp Nou.
Tottenham also wants Eric
A new candidate has been added to the list of clubs that want the Spanish player in their ranks. Tottenham has set its sights on one of FC Barcelona’s defenders. The latest reports indicate the Spurs’ interest in Eric García. Although there has been talk of a renewal in recent weeks, the Catalan club needs to offload players in the summer and it is not out of the question given the interest he has attracted as one of the candidates to free up salary space.
The English club is well aware that the defender’s contract expires in 2026, so they will seek to negotiate a lower transfer fee. Barça hopes to receive at least €15 million for Eric’s transfer, but Tottenham is expected to start negotiations with an offer in the range of €10-12 million. The 24-year-old defender knows the Premier League well after his time at Manchester City (2018-2021).
