Jorge Mendes, agent for several Barça players, will travel to Barcelona shortly, according to Jijantes. His intention is to meet with representatives of the Catalan club to discuss the cases of Lamine Yamal and Ansu Fati, two of his players.
Lamine Yamal’s current contract expires in 2026, and although there is a ‘verbal agreement’ to extend it until 2030 when he turns 18, the lack of financial guarantees is said to have caused the player’s contract renewal to stall.
The contract extension negotiations are being handled with great secrecy by all parties. Lamine is no longer just worth his salary. He also makes the Barça brand richer. That is the understanding of his agent, Jorge Mendes, who works with Deco, with whom he has a good relationship, to harmonize his demands with those of the club as much as possible.
The idea of the Barça entity is to secure its greatest asset for five more years, until June 2030, and the player cannot conceive of any other option than continuing his career as a Barça player. However, aware of his importance within the team, the player has expressed to his agent, Jorge Mendes, his desire to sign a new contract in line with his status. The club would be willing to give in to the youngster’s financial demands.
Despite his return to the pitch, Barça had already made a decision about Ansu Fati’s future: they do not count on him. The club wants to get rid of the player, but in a good way. He is not in Barça’s plans, and the club is considering several options for the end of the season.
A permanent departure is currently being considered, although it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached between the parties. If not, a renewal and a new loan deal could see Ansu resurrect his career. A termination of his contract cannot be ruled out, but the club wants to avoid this.
