The future of Real Madrid lies with Xabi Alonso. For months, Real Madrid’s target if Carlo Ancelotti left has been Xabi Alonso, coach of Bayer Leverkusen. The style proposed by the San Sebastian native seems tailor-made for the white team, with a vertical and offensive game without sacrificing touch, similar to the way he played when he was a footballer.

Many claim that he has already signed, but the truth is that he has another year left on his contract and will have to be bought out. Real Madrid has been in contact with the Basque coach and has let him know that they are counting on him if Ancelotti does not stay at the club next season. In fact, according to recent reports, the Whites would be willing to pay for him. There was talk of an offer of €6 million.

However, a radical turn of events has shaken expectations in the last few hours. According to journalist Josep Pedrerol on the program El Chiringuito, Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, is not completely convinced about signing Xabi Alonso. Pedrerol, with privileged information, pointed out that the top Madrid executive is evaluating other options and that Ancelotti’s continuity is not ruled out.

Pedrerol was emphatic in quoting the words that reflect the situation: “Florentino is not so sure about Xabi Alonso. He is receiving all kinds of messages about Alonso. If Ancelotti wins the Cup… Florentino acknowledges that Madrid has been playing very badly lately, but if Real Madrid wins La Liga against this Barça and the Copa del Rey, Xabi Alonso will not be needed.”

The other options

In the search for a new coach in recent weeks, a new name has emerged. The 15-time Champions League winner is said to be following in the footsteps of the iconic Jürgen Klopp. A coach who left an indelible mark at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, he is now in charge of football at Red Bull. With Ancelotti and Xabi Alonso’s future uncertain, the Whites could open up this new avenue, which would be a bombshell in the summer transfer market.

However, this option, which had excited many Madrid fans who were already fantasizing about having Jürgen Klopp on the bench at the Santiago Bernabéu, may have vanished. “I understand that there have been inquiries from the best clubs in Europe and some federations about Klopp. However, he has no intention of taking on the role of head coach next season. Not even at Madrid or with the Brazilian national team,” said Marc Kosicke, the coach’s agent, in statements to Sky Germany.

He also appeared on the list of possible candidates for the Real Madrid bench. It would be a change from one Italian, Carlo Ancelotti, to another, Antonio Conte. Antonio Conte is a coach with a proven track record of success at clubs such as Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan.

It would be curious if Carlo Ancelotti left to make way for his son Davide, but the truth is that it is an option that has not been ruled out at Real Madrid. Carlo’s son has made an important mark on the team in his father’s shadow, but people really like his approach to modern football and the innovative systems he uses, and they believe that these aspects, in addition to his knowledge of the dressing room, could give him an advantage at the helm of the team.
