Fernando Alonso will turn 44 next July, and after 20 years in F1, he is enjoying his final stage as a driver in the top category of world motor racing. The question on many people’s lips is when he will call time on his professional career. It will be soon, but he still hopes to be able to fight for the F1 World Championship.

Fernando Alonso’s moment

Fernando Alonso is having a difficult season at Aston Martin, but his personal performance remains flawless, as he has demonstrated in recent races. The AMR25 is currently ninth on the grid, but the Asturian is managing to get the most out of the car, placing it on the verge of the points in two of the five races contested, albeit taking significant risks that jeopardize his safety.

While waiting for the next updates from Aston Martin, in the hope of improving by a few tenths of a second that could put him in contention for points, Fernando Alonso is clear that this season he will have to suffer until the last corner of the World Championship.

Despite the problems with the car, Fernando Alonso never tires of saying that he will continue to give 100%, and more, in every race. He doesn’t know how to drive any other way, and when he stops doing so, he will step aside and leave the top flight, but that won’t happen now.

Fernando Alonso’s time in F1 is running out

It is true that his time is running out, he is not going to drive forever, but the Spanish driver is still motivated and wants to do nothing else but race in F1. Although this year will be tough, his hopes, and those of the whole team, are pinned on next year with the arrival of the new regulations.

Lawrence Stroll’s investment with the aim of placing Aston Martin among the elite of F1 is the reason behind Fernando Alonso’s commitment. The arrival of the new regulations, the creation of a new state-of-the-art factory in Silverstone, and the hiring of multiple experienced and successful personnel, including Adrian Newey, are compelling reasons to believe that next season everything could change radically.

Fernando Alonso will race next season with Aston Martin with the aim of winning the world championship. That is the goal the Asturian has set himself at the moment, and then we’ll see. In this regard, there are several possible scenarios: if Fernando Alonso wins his third world title in 2026, he may try to defend his title in 2027. But if he fails to win the coveted crown, he will have to sit down with the team and make a decision in which both parties will have a say, and as Fernando Alonso said, “I will continue to help the team on and off the track.”

Alonso’s bond with Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso has found in Aston Martin the confidence he has not found in other teams over the years. His connection with the team is not limited to the track, as he has said on many occasions. And his commitment to the team’s decisions is beyond doubt. As long as he feels strong and motivated (which he does now), and the team has confidence in him, he will continue driving. But the moment he no longer feels like continuing or the team wants to bring in a new driver, he will leave his seat and end his sporting career.

For now, Fernando Alonso will remain in F1 for the current season and the next. From there, the results and the desire of the driver and the team will determine the fate of a driver who continues to defy age and those who believe he is no longer fit to drive an F1 car.
