Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin have not started the 2025 F1 season in the best possible way. At the moment, the team has a modest total of only 10 points after the first five Grand Prix races of the season, but everything points to a bright future ahead.
The feeling surrounding the Silverstone-based team is very positive with the arrival of Andy Cowell as team principal and the highly acclaimed Adrian Newey as technical director, giving hope for a plausible improvement that will bring much joy ahead of next season.
Commitment to Aston Martin
Former AlphaTauri director Franz Tost believes Aston Martin could become the “team of the future” in the coming years. The former manager spoke to Sport1 and made it clear what he believes will be the future of Fernando Alonso’s team. “I think Aston will be the team of the future. They have signed some very good people, such as Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell. Newey, in my opinion, is the best engineer in the paddock and has immense experience.”
Tost knows Cowell well, having worked with him before, and has every confidence that he will make Aston Martin a team with a promising future. “I know him from my time at BMW. Back then, Cowell built the legendary ten-cylinder engine, which was by far the best engine. He then went to Mercedes and did a fantastic job there too. In short, you could say that Aston Martin has the best man in the car sector and the best man in the engine sector.”
Tost also had words for the Aston Martin-Honda alliance. “Honda is not only highly motivated, but also very open. In addition, Aston Martin has a very modern factory with the right facilities. That’s why, for me, they represent the future.”
During his speech, he did not hesitate to talk about the future of Max Verstappen and the alleged offer from Aston Martin. “For the moment, Max is still a Red Bull driver; he has a long-term contract there. Now it depends on whether he fulfills that contract. There are several teams for him, but personally I think Aston Martin is the favorite.”
