Ronald Araújo’s departure is taking shape: a new suitor emerges

Andreas Christensen is shaping up to be a headache for Barcelona in the coming weeks. The player is not in the plans of the Catalan club, who want to offload him after a year in which he has barely seen any action, but he seems determined to see out his contract with the Barcelona-based side. Furthermore, his lack of playing time could make it difficult to secure a deal that would satisfy both parties.

Last night, after not playing in 2025 and with just over 20 minutes under his belt, he felt like a footballer again for a few minutes against Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals at Montjuic. After more than eight months without playing, the Danish footballer came on in the dying moments of the momentous match, which ended 3-3 after a crazy game.

With the score at 3-3 and the Italians pushing forward, Flick decided to rest Pau Cubarsí, who was vital to the coach and at risk of receiving a yellow card. With 10 minutes to go, Christensen, who had been cleared to play weeks earlier but had not had any opportunities until last night, came on and put in a solid performance.
Until yesterday, Christensen had played only 20 minutes all season.

The Danish center back got off to a bad start to the season, playing only the first game against Valencia. He then missed a week of training. His recovery was long, and when he finally returned to the group, the Barça player suffered another setback during training. Christensen injured his right calf in training ahead of the Champions League match against Atalanta on January 28. He was then ruled out for approximately three weeks.

His new injury put the brakes on several options the player had to leave in the winter transfer window. The Dane knows that his future is at stake in two months and Barça is considering what to do, prioritizing his departure. However, according to Sport, the player has decided to stay at Barça next season and fulfill his contract, which expires on June 30, 2026. His idea is to continue, forget this season, and earn the German coach’s trust to be a player with a presence in the team next season.
