Social Security benefit payments are made once a month to eligible beneficiaries, however it is not the only payment that rolls out on a monthly basis from the Social Security Administration. A second payment referred to as the Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, is also made to eligible beneficiaries each month.
For millions of vulnerable Americans across the country, these monthly benefit checks are their main, and sometimes sole, source of income. As such, the Social Security Administration plans out and uploads its payment schedule for the full year in advance, thereby enabling beneficiaries to plan out their budgets accordingly and with ease.
What is the SSI payment?
SSI, or the Supplemental Security Income is a monthly payment that is made to individuals with disabilities, or older adults who have very little to no other income or resources. According to the official Social Security Administration’s website, in order to qualify for SSI monthly benefits, an adult or child must have the following:
- Little or no income, and
- Little or no resources, and
- A disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older.
The amount received by a SSI beneficiary is determined after factoring in the recipient’s income, living situation, and possessions, amongst other things. Additionally, wages, other income, and changes to the beneficiary’s resources or living arrangements must be reported to the agency on a monthly basis.
SSI benefits can be received by beneficiaries in addition to the regular monthly Social Security benefit as well. The rollout dates for payments for beneficiaries of both types of benefits differ slight and are marked separately on the SSA’s payment schedule.
No SSI payments for June 2025
According to the 2025 Social Security payment schedule, beneficiaries of SSI benefits will not be receiving a payment for the entirety of the month of June. This is not a cause for concern and it definitely does not mean that beneficiaries will be missing a payment this year, however.
If one looks at the payment schedule for the month of May, they will notice that two SSI payments will be rolled out this month. The first SSI payment, which beneficiaries should have already received, went out on the first of May and this is the SSI benefit for the month of May.
A second SSI payment will be going out at the end on this month on May 30 as well, however. It is of utmost importance for beneficiaries to note that this is not a bonus payment for May, but rather it is the SSI payment that is to be used for the month of June.
As such, no SSI payments will be going out for the entirety of the month of June, meaning that after the May 30 SSI payment, the next SSI check to hit the bank accounts of beneficiaries will only be seen on the first of July.
Beneficiaries should exercise great caution regarding this when using the SSA’s schedule to plan out their monthly budgets for the year.
Additionally, beneficiaries of both the regular Social Security benefit as well as the Supplemental Security Income should note that their payment dates may vary slightly to that on the schedule. Generally, Social Security benefit payments are made on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month in relation to the birth date of the recipient as follows:
- Birthdate from 1st-10th: second Wednesday
- Birthdate from 11th-20th: third Wednesday
- Birthdate from 21st-31st: fourth Wednesday
However, in the case of beneficiaries who are receiving SSI benefits in addition to the regular Social Security benefit, Social Security is paid on the 3rd of the month and the SSI is paid on the 1st.
These dates apply to beneficiaries who have been receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 as well.
