The perfect competitor for Koundé within reach

Barcelona is about to seal a season that, while not perfect, is still outstanding. The arrival of Hansi Flick has changed the course of a team that seemed lost in recent seasons. The German coach has managed to instil confidence in players who had lost it, enabling them to return to their best, and has built a team in which everyone contributes and no one is indispensable.

This has been clear in recent weeks. While it is true that there are key players, such as Alejandro Balde, in his absence Gerard Martín has performed at a high level. The same has happened with the absence of Robert Lewandowski. Ferran Torres has more than covered the number 9 position, making the absence of the Polish striker less painful. Another loss of an undisputed starter was Jules Koundé on the right wing, where Flick opted for his wild card Eric García, who has once again shown why the coach bet on him and wanted to keep him.

Eric García gains prominence

One of the most important players in Barça’s B team throughout the season has been Eric García, who has played as a pivot, center back and, in recent weeks, as we mentioned, has become a right back to replace Jules Koundé. The player’s versatility is key for Hansi Flick, who has always defended him.

For Flick, he is an important player and he has been fighting for him since January when he stopped him from leaving. The player could have left in January and has suitors for the summer transfer market, but the Barça coach is clear that he wants him to stay. His contract expires in 2026 and the club is now considering renewing it.

In that sense, Deco is not so sure about the renewal. Although the Catalan player’s good work is valued, Barça needs to close sales this summer to lighten the salary cap and be able to register new players. It is estimated that the player’s transfer could generate between €15 and €20 million.

Eric García’s suitors

The player’s versatility and good work, key in the match against Inter Milan despite the defeat, has not gone unnoticed in a market that already had its eye on him in January and now has new suitors every day. The versatile player has renewed interest from Girona, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Como, and Tottenham. The latter, given its financial potential, could be the one to make FC Barcelona an offer they cannot refuse for the player.

Como resigns itself

As for Italian side Como, their coach Cesc Fábregas has publicly acknowledged his team’s interest in the Catalan player. “I can confirm our interest in Eric Garcia of Barcelona. I like him a lot: he is versatile, a leader, important for the team. But he will stay at Barcelona,” he admitted at a press conference. In a matter of months, he has gone from having his future up in the air to seeing how the club of his life does not want to let him go.
