Barça won the league title on Thursday in Cornellà. The championship had been decided since last Sunday when they beat Real Madrid in Montjuic. The 7-point gap made it clear who the champions would be, with only the date to be decided, which was finally yesterday after Real Madrid won at the last minute against Mallorca on Wednesday.
Hansi Flick’s side needed a win to celebrate at the RCD Stadium, and that’s exactly what they did. Barça started sluggishly against the pressure from the home side, but Lamine Yamal stepped up to score a stunning goal that brought the title closer, before Fermín sealed the win with a second in stoppage time.
The celebrations began yesterday on the pitch amid sprinklers and a Flick who wanted to move the party to the dressing room to avoid a repeat of the pitch invasion two years ago. In the dressing room, madness broke out with beer, singing, dancing, and cigars in the presence of president Laporta. There were also celebrations in Canaletas, where fans are now looking forward to celebrating with their team.
The city-wide party will continue on Friday afternoon with a parade through Barcelona. The parade through the streets of Barcelona on an open-top bus will start at 6 p.m. from Spotify Camp Nou and end after 9:30 p.m. at the Arc de Triomf.
There will be several entertainment points along the route. The route the bus will follow will be the same as two seasons ago in Barça’s last league title win under Xavi Hernández. The champions’ parade will pass through Travessera de les Corts, down Carrer Numància, continuing along Berlín and París, taking Balmes to Pelai, arriving at Plaça Catalunya and passing through Fontanella and Trafalgar until it ends at Arc de Triomf.
The party will not end there, as it will not be until Sunday at Montjuic in the match against Villarreal that Barça will receive the league trophy. After the match, scheduled for 7 p.m., RFEF president Rafael Louzao will present captain Marc André ter Stegen with the trophy at the Lluís Companys stadium, which, if all goes well, will host its last match before the Azulgrana team returns next season to the renovated Camp Nou.
