The season is over for Real Madrid, who are now focusing on the decisions they need to make after a disappointing campaign. The transfer market, both in terms of signings and departures, is now the focus of attention for Los Blancos, who are awaiting the arrival of Xabi Alonso to finalize the squad.
Decisions to be made
With the signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen more than on track, Real Madrid is already working to finalize the signing of Álvaro Carreras for the left-back position. As for new signings, the club and Xabi Alonso will have to decide on a central midfielder, with the search for a new Kross taking some time; a goalkeeper, given the possible departure of Lunin; and the attack, with the incessant rumors of Rodrygo’s departure and the need for a reference number 9.
In addition, decisions must be made regarding players such as Lucas Vázquez and Modrid, whose contracts are expiring, and players on their way out such as Brahim, Rodrygo, Lunin, and Endrick, who are awaiting a conversation with Xabi Alonso to decide on a future that is currently up in the air.
Modric will play in the World Cup
One of the players with an uncertain future is Luka Modric, whose contract expires on June 30. From July 1, he would therefore be free to negotiate in the transfer window that begins on that date. However, in a special season due to the World Cup, the Croatian will be in the United States to compete in the tournament that begins on June 13. There has been talk of a renewal for weeks, but Real Madrid already took the World Cup into account and added a clause to his contract that already included Luka Modric’s presence in the United States.
Modric’s future
Luka Modric has expressed on multiple occasions his desire to retire at Real Madrid and therefore play one more season in white. At 40 years of age and with little playing time this season, the club is more inclined to end the Croatian’s fruitful spell at the Santiago Bernabéu. Ultimately, everything will depend on what Xabi Alonso wants to do.
If he does not renew, Modric’s future could remain in Europe. Manu Carreño, a journalist at Cadena SER, revealed on El Larguero an unexpected destination should the midfielder leave. According to the aforementioned source, his “intention is to continue competing in Europe, for example in Italy, which is something that appeals to him quite a lot.” The journalist went on to say that Luka Modric “does not want to go to Saudi Arabia, the United States or anywhere else.” Luka Modric would like to “continue competing in Europe, perhaps for an Italian team.”
