Aston Martin has made a significant step forward in the Italian F1 Grand Prix, but caution is needed with these improvements. In F1, it is very common to see teams improve in one Grand Prix and then perform poorly in the next, which is why the team is sending a message of calm and urging everyone to continue working hard to reach the best level in the upcoming races.
These are Aston Martin’s plans for the upcoming races
Fernando Alonso managed to place the AMR25 in fifth place in Saturday’s qualifying, but Sunday’s race did not go as the team had hoped, as incidents during the race seriously hampered their strategy. However, given the pace of the Italian Grand Prix, the AMR25 appeared to be the sixth car on the grid, but very close to Williams, Mercedes, and Ferrari, so the change from previous races was dramatic.
Aston Martin has plans for the upcoming races. First up is the challenge of Monaco this weekend, a challenge and at the same time a great opportunity to find the best setup for the car in slow corners, one of its major weaknesses this season – although Cowell confirmed that improvements have also been made. Monaco is the slowest and shortest circuit of the season, where qualifying is key to a race that, however, sees a change in regulations to try to make it more exciting—it will be mandatory to make a minimum of two stops so that teams can propose different strategies. For this race, Aston Martin is preparing specific aerodynamic updates for high-downforce circuits.
Improvements for Barcelona
And next week, for the third consecutive race, F1 arrives in Barcelona, where there will be an important change, not only for Aston Martin, but for all the teams, as the FIA introduces a change in the regulations for the front wings, which will force all teams to change the front of their cars.
But Aston Martin is going beyond the mandatory changes and has also announced that it will bring new parts with the aim of improving the car’s weak points, such as the suspension that will be fitted to the AMR26, which is already ready and complies with the current regulations. And they are doing so on a circuit that is ideal for testing the new updates, as Barcelona is a track with long straights, fast corners, and slow corners.
Confidence in Aston Martin
After several years in which Aston Martin failed to get any of its updates right, it seems that the tide has finally turned. These first parts unveiled in Italy confirm that the team is on the right track, and although the message from the team is one of caution, the truth is that there is a lot of confidence in the new package of improvements for Barcelona. If they have made a significant leap forward with the first ones, they are confident they can do so again starting next week.
The internal goal is to be able to fight for the top 5 in the races and be able to take advantage of any race incidents to scratch a podium, which would be a huge surprise given how the year started.
There is confidence at Aston Martin. They are convinced that they have found the way to continue improving, and they believe that they are doing so just in time to meet the team’s real goal, which is none other than to be ready for the arrival of 2026, with the introduction of new regulations and a new era of F1. The team aspires to become a big name in the Grand Circus, they are confident in their chances of achieving this, and the results they obtain in 2025 will be key to understanding the internal evolution since Silverstone. The improvements are not yet a reality, and we will see if those in Barcelona end up being so.
