Barcelona searches for its new Nico Williams: One target already has a price, and Laporta is considering it

Lamine Yamal has earned his place as FC Barcelona’s man of the year. The youth academy player has been the best player of the season for the Catalan club, earning himself a contract renewal that will allow him to continue playing under Hansi Flick, winning titles and finally lifting the Champions League trophy. The renewal will make him the highest-paid player on the squad.

The renewal will be signed when he turns 18. Although it may not seem like it from the way he plays, the youth player is only 17 years old and has already won the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup in the same season. The player has been key with his goals, assists, and crazy dribbling, which are bringing him closer to a legend like Lionel Messi. He will inherit Messi’s jersey number next season.

A million-dollar renewal is getting closer

Throughout the season, there has been speculation about the player’s contract when he turns 18. During these months, it has been speculated that the central issue in the negotiations was that the player wanted a salary commensurate with what he contributes to the team on the pitch. This has been confirmed in recent hours by Joan Laporta, who assured that his renewal was a done deal.

Laporta was also clear about the player’s salary. “The salary has to be in line with the player’s importance within the team, regardless of his age,” he explained. “A player like Lamine, who has exploded in the way he has, has to be treated in a special way. He’s out of the ordinary,” Laporta said in an interview on TV3.

Laporta emphasized the club’s desire to secure a long-term relationship: “We want him to stay for many years. The approach we take over time will be important. So far, there have been no problems with his entourage, quite the contrary. This will end well.”

The figures of Lamine Yamal’s new contract

In recent hours, the website Libertad Digital has reported that Lamine Yamal and FC Barcelona will seal their new deal next week. As for his salary, Lamine Yamal will now earn €15 million net per season, plus a bonus for extending his contract from 25 to 30. These figures will make him one of the highest-paid players. He currently earns €1.6 million net. According to the aforementioned source, the only remaining detail is whether the contract will be for five or six years (until 2031 or 2032), as well as a review of the player’s image rights.
