Alexander-Arnold and the Club World Cup: here’s how things stand right now

Ansu Fati is a hot potato at FC Barcelona. The player had regained some prominence in recent weeks due to Flick’s rotations, but he was not at the Montjuic party against Villarreal and his future remains uncertain. Although everything points to a departure, the formula for this has not been decided and, furthermore, the messages coming out of the club are somewhat confusing regarding the future of the young academy player and his departure.

What the club says

“He is a player who had a spectacular explosion, then the injuries came. We wanted to get Ansu back and he had a great preseason, but for whatever reason he hasn’t had any opportunities. We haven’t stopped believing in the player and we’re counting on him. From here on out, everyone has their own personal analysis and will see if they want to play more minutes. He’s a great player who hasn’t had much playing time this season. We’re happy with him. If he wants to improve, we’ll talk about it,” said Deco in an interview on RAC1.

“Ansu needs to play. Everyone in the dressing room loves him. We’ll see if he gets minutes next year or if we have to find a better solution for him,” Laporta said on TV3. “He has a contract and we want him to progress. He’s a player who has gone through some difficulties and I would love to see him get back on track. Hopefully next year he’ll get more minutes,” Laporta said in a recent interview.

Options for leaving

Barça, as he is not in the coach’s plans, is in favor of the player leaving and wants to do so amicably by facilitating his departure. In the last few hours, the ‘favour’ that the Blaugrana are asking of Ansu Fati has been made public. The club wants the player to be free to sign for another team without a transfer fee, provided that he agrees to terminate his current contract, i.e., if he waives the €26 million he is still owed for the next two seasons. The striker would only accept if there is financial compensation.

Ansu’s suitors

The young player was on the verge of leaving for Besiktas in the winter, but in the end, the move fell through at the last minute and he stayed at Barça, where he had a few minutes of playing time in the final stretch of the season. In the latest transfer rumors, he has also been linked with Sevilla, who seemed very keen to sign the player. In addition, Fichajes.net included Valencia and Real Sociedad in the bidding for the Barça youth player.

Monaco wants the Barça player

Monaco will play another season in the Champions League and wants to strengthen and expand its squad, having set its sights on Ansu Fati for this purpose. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Monegasque club has already taken steps to strengthen its squad with the 22-year-old Spanish-Guinean striker, who has a contract with Barça until 2027. Therefore, Ligue 1 could be the destination of choice to continue his career, provided he is guaranteed playing time, as this is the only thing the player represented by Jorge Mendes, the same agent as Ansu Fati, is looking for. With a contract until 2027, many questions surround Ansu Fati, who knows that Flick does not count on him for next season, but has not yet decided on his future.

Of course, Barça will facilitate whatever the player wants, so the final decision undoubtedly lies in his hands. The coming weeks will be key to the future of Ansu Fati, who needs to feel like a footballer again.
