Deco and Hansi Flick’s transfer market plan: The roadmap is clear

Barça ended the 2024/2025 season as LaLiga champions. A victory in the regular championship allowed Hansi Flick‘s team to finish four points ahead of Real Madrid. It is the third title of the season for the Azulgranas, after winning the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.

Hansi Flick takes Barça to 88 points in the league

All three titles were won against the almighty Real Madrid of Mbappé, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Bellingham, the team that, after winning the league and the Champions League last season, started as favorites and almost won everything after adding Mbappé to their championship-winning squad.

This was achieved under Hansi Flick, who demonstrated great knowledge of the squad from day one last summer. He knew how to get the most out of each player, was clear that he had to rely on the youth academy, and was also aware of the club’s financial problems. He therefore told the club’s sporting directors that few new signings were needed to make Barça a winning team. And he has delivered.

Only Dani Olmo arrived in the summer, in addition to the return of Eric Garcia from loan. With almost the same squad as last season, Barça has played excellent football and won three of the four titles it has contested, coming close to returning to the Champions League final ten years later.

A superb 2025

LaLiga was won after a spectacular start, two bad months in November and December, when it looked like the title was slipping away, and a superb 2025, with sixteen consecutive games without defeat, including fifteen wins and two draws.

All this has meant that the Culés, with Lamine Yamal as their star player, Raphinha as an unimaginable talent, Lewandowski on the verge of becoming top scorer and Pedri as master of ceremonies, among many others, have reached 88 points in the league championship and more than 100 goals. They did so by far surpassing Real Madrid, who scored 78. In defense, Hansi Flick’s men also stood out, being one of the teams with the fewest goals conceded (39), only surpassed by Madrid themselves (38) and Atlético Madrid (30).

A giant step forward, especially considering where they came from. In this sense, we can say that these 88 points have meant that Barça also has one of the highest point totals of any league title in its history. For example, it equaled the record set by Xavi Hernández two seasons ago, also with 88 points.

Tito Vilanova’s Barça, the league with the most points in Barça’s history

Hansi Flick is now part of the group of coaches who have added a league title to Barça’s trophy cabinet. Specifically, it is the 28th for the club. A title spurred on, in part, by the ability of its players to overcome adversity. “The mentality of the coach and the players is always the same: to play without complexes and go out to win,” said Gerard López, the Catalan coach, in a recent interview.

Alongside this league title in the 2024/2025 season and Xavi’s in 2022/2023, there are championships such as that of Tito Vilanova in 2010, which is now the highest-scoring league in the history of FC Barcelona. At that time, they won the title with 100 points, leaving Real Madrid in second place, 15 points behind.

We also remember Pep Guardiola’s second league title in 2009/2010, when they won LaLiga with 99 points, three more than Mourinho’s Real Madrid, who finished second.

Pep Guardiola reached 99 points and Luis Enrique 94

A year later, in the 2010/2011 season, also with Pep Guardiola as head coach and Tito Vilanova as assistant coach, Barça won the league in style with 96 points, four more than José Mourinho’s Real Madrid, who finished second in the standings.

Also memorable is the 2014/2015 season, this time with Luis Enrique at the helm. In his first season in charge of the Catalan club, Luis Enrique won the league title with 94 points, two more than Madrid, who finished second. Along with the league title, Barça added the Copa del Rey and Champions League titles, winning the second treble in its history.
