Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz share more than just talent behind the wheel; their passion for cars goes far beyond the racetrack. While the Asturian driver has built one of the most exclusive collections in the world of sports, the Madrid native has been quietly building his own.
Fernando Alonso’s car collection
Fernando Alonso has turned his love of speed into a collection of sports cars that reflects his career in F1. His garage is a treasure trove of power, history, and technology.
One of the most special models is the Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 Edition, a supercar of which only 150 units were ever made. Equipped with a 5.4-liter V8 engine and 641 hp, it can reach 350 km/h. The name 722 is a tribute to Stirling Moss’ victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia.
The McLaren 650S Spider is another of Alonso’s favorites. This convertible with a 650 hp twin-turbo V8 engine reaches 339 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 in just three seconds. Also noteworthy is the Ferrari LaFerrari, the Italian brand’s first hybrid with a combined power output of 963 hp that accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
But his collection goes much further. It also includes a Honda NSX, a Toyota GR Supra, a Ferrari Enzo auctioned after being part of his garage, and an exclusive Ford GT40 Heritage Edition 2022, valued at $450,000. The latest gem is the Aston Martin DBX 707, a luxury SUV with 707 hp and AMG technology that he received after signing with the British team.
Carlos Sainz and his car collection
Carlos Sainz started out with a lower profile that has improved over time, with his move to F1. The Madrid native has prioritized functionality and has taken advantage of his time with different teams to be able to drive high-end models without having to own them.
His first car was a Volkswagen Golf GTI, a gift from his father when he came of age. With 221 hp and 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, this car was the start of his city driving.
When he signed for the Renault F1 team in 2017, he received a Renault Megane R.S., which he even drove in the Monte Carlo Rally. Later, already with McLaren, he got behind the wheel of a 710 hp McLaren 720S and a McLaren 600LT Spider, both high-performance vehicles capable of reaching 100 kilometers per hour in just 3 seconds.
Now as a Ferrari driver, Sainz was able to drive a Ferrari Portofino, the Ferrari Roma Spider, and an amazing Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio as his everyday car.
But the jewel in his garage arrived in 2024, with the Ferrari 812 Competizione, the first car he bought on his own. This V12-powered, 830 hp hypercar was fully customized and represents the perfect farewell to Ferrari before his move to Williams. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and is priced at around $600,000.
Although the two drivers have different visions, the car collections of Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz show their passion for speed; the Oviedo native chooses exclusivity and product diversity, while Carlos Sainz has built a collection that has grown alongside his sporting career.
