Xabi Alonso needs Ceballos… and tells the player: he’s staying

De Jong has been one of the players who has undergone a kind of metamorphosis this season under Hansi Flick. The Dutchman had been heavily criticized, but this season he has formed a great partnership with Pedri in midfield and has become an important player in the German coach’s scheme. That is why the club has decided to extend the player’s contract, but the renewal has been slow in coming and the player has reportedly made a decision.

The club is clear… but has set a deadline

The club is clear that it wants De Jong to stay. The player arrived in 2019 with the label of a star, but his career did not prove this. However, as we said, this season he has won the affection of the fans with his great footballing display and is an undisputed starter for Hansi Flick.

In fact, the coach has made it clear that he does not want to lose the Dutch player. “His professional circumstances have changed over the last couple of months and we have discussed it at length. We want him to stay, for me he is a key player for this project to work,” he said. Deco expressed a similar view. “We have to stop talking about the past, it’s not his fault he earns what he earns. He has taken a step forward in his career. He is committed, happy, and motivated. I don’t think he has been treated fairly. He is a player with a future, and if we can reach an agreement, we will,” he said.

The desire to renew is clear, as Deco and Laporta have made it clear that they do not want any players in their final year of contract, and that is what will happen with de Jong, so there is a deadline. FC Barcelona wants to clarify Frenkie de Jong’s future before June 30.

Frenkie De Jong’s decision

De Jong wants to continue at Barça and has reportedly made a decision to stop delaying the signing of his renewal. According to information from Gerard Romero, the Barcelona midfielder has asked his lawyer to terminate his contract with his agent, Ali Dursun, to speed up the renewal. Apparently, the agent had been asking for exorbitant salaries in the negotiations to get a higher commission and was not looking out for the interests of his client, who wants to continue wearing the Barça shirt.

Once this situation is resolved, everything seems to indicate that the renewal will be sealed this month, extending his relationship with a Barcelona team that has already told him that he will have to lower his salary and bring it in line with the current reality.

De Jong already with the Netherlands

While this situation is being resolved and the loose ends are being tied up, De Jong has already joined the Netherlands national team under Ronald Koeman. With the national team, he will play two qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup against Finland (June 7) and Malta (June 10). After that, Frenkie will resume his vacation, but not before sealing the deal to continue winning titles with FC Barcelona for another season.
