The debate is over: this is the number Mbappé will wear from now on at Madrid

At FC Barcelona, signing new players is just as important as letting players go to make room under the salary cap and fill the club’s coffers. The club is working on three well-defined and key fronts: renewals, signings, and departures. These are Deco’s tasks in the coming weeks, with Lenglet’s definitive departure for the Metropolitano being one of the first things on the list.

Renewals on track

As we have said, one of the open fronts at Barça and one that is being given top priority is to finalize renewals that will help maintain the solid block that has been built this season and with which three titles have been won. In this regard, in addition to those already completed before the end of the season, Barcelona has already announced the renewals of Hansi Flick, Raphinha, and the long-awaited Lamine Yamal.

Now, the priority for the Azulgrana is to finalize the renewals of Frenkie De Jong and Szczesny. Both want to stay, and only minor details remain to be ironed out in the coming weeks. In addition, the club has not ruled out extending Iñigo Martínez’s contract for another year, after he had already extended his contract until 2026, and renewing Eric García, who has proved himself indispensable with his versatility.

One signing completed and another to go

In terms of new signings, it is only a matter of hours before the signing of goalkeeper Joan García is made official. The Catalan talent has shone at Espanyol and Barça did not want to let him get away. In this regard, the other big priority is to sign a left winger. This is a joint decision by Deco and Hansi Flick, and there is a clear favorite, Luis Díaz. He is not the only name on the list, as Rashford and Ademola Lookman are also being considered.

Departures

In the departure operation, the club is finalizing the details of Ansu Fati’s loan to Monaco. The player will leave Barça after several failed attempts to find him a destination given his lack of playing time at the club. In addition, the club is considering saying goodbye to players such as Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor, while Iñaki Peña’s departure is a foregone conclusion, especially with the arrival of Joan García.

Lenglet and his definitive departure

Another departure that is expected to be finalized shortly is that of Lenglet. With the end of his loan spell, decisions have to be made, and both Barça and Atlético are already working on it. The Colchoneros want to keep him and the Azulgranas want to let him go. In addition, the Club World Cup, which the Colchoneros will compete in, is on the horizon to speed up a deal that they want to have finalized by next week.

The player wants to continue at the Metropolitano and is willing to give up part of his salary to sign a good contract in Madrid. FC Barcelona wants to profit from the deal, while Atleti is more reluctant to pay a large amount. The Rojiblancos do not want to pay for the center back and are asking him to return to the Metropolitano with a letter of freedom. He has a contract with Barça until 2027, although it is true that the Azulgranas are prioritizing freeing up space to do business with a player they do not count on.
