Real Madrid is thinking it over with Nico Paz: his future could still be in Italy… but not with Como

Nico Paz has been a key player in Serie A throughout the season and continues to be so this summer off the pitch with various reports about his future. Real Madrid has the option to re-sign the player, who is very much on their radar as they need reinforcements in midfield. However, what seemed like a done deal has become more complicated in recent hours, with the Argentine player now having other options on the table. The coming weeks will be decisive in the final decision of all parties.

Real Madrid considers Nico Paz

Real Madrid’s need for a midfielder is a reality. The team did not replace Toni Kroos and has felt the impact throughout the season. Now, with the departure of Luka Modric, the team can no longer put off the task of strengthening the midfield. In this regard, in recent weeks, the idea of signing Nico Paz, for whom there is an affordable purchase option of $8 million, has been gaining ground.

The player has had a great season in Italy with Como, being the best young player in Serie A, which has caught the attention of the Whites, who, in principle, were considering counting on the player for the Club World Cup, but have changed their minds. Miguel Ángel Díaz reported on El Partidazo de COPE that the final decision will be made after the tournament. It will be after this tournament when the situation is assessed. It will be a joint decision because neither the player nor Madrid want him to stagnate in his career,” he explained.

Several reasons may have led the Whites to postpone the decision, one of which is the imminent signing of Nico Paz’s young compatriot, Franco Mastantuono. The player has very similar characteristics and they could be incompatible. On the other hand, at Como, under Cesc Fábregas, Paz was a key player and does not want to return to the Santiago Bernabéu unless he can count on playing time that will allow him to continue growing.

Nico Paz’s alternatives

If the midfielder does not make it to the Santiago Bernabéu, he will not be short of options for his future. On the one hand, Como wants to continue counting on one of its key players throughout the season. There is also the possibility that, given the difficulty of fitting him into the squad, Real Madrid may decide to sign him back and then transfer him to another team.

In recent days, the option of Bayer Leverkusen has emerged, who want him as a replacement for Florian Wirtz, who is set to join Liverpool. The Bild newspaper reported that Real Madrid would activate his buy-back clause and then demand at least €30 million from the German club, in addition to another buy-back clause. According to the aforementioned source, Xabi Alonso’s former team is willing to pay that amount for the player.

Moving to Germany would not be his only option, as he could continue in Italy, but not at Como. There has been speculation in recent days that Cesc Fábregas could join Inter Milan, but his current club has closed the door on this option. However, they have not ruled out interest in Nico Paz, whom they wanted in the past. We will have to see what happens in the coming weeks with the Argentine player.
