Aston Martin is about to come full circle. Starting in July, its internal restructuring will come to an end with the arrival of Enrico Cardile to the team. The aerodynamicist, one of the most renowned on the grid, arrived at Aston Martin amid controversy, but the wait is finally over and he will now be able to work with the rest of the team.

Aston Martin restructuring

Aston Martin has radically changed its organizational chart in recent months to create a solid structure with big names from the world of F1. The most important of these is Adrian Newey, obviously the most important engineer and designer in the history of the sport, the most decorated, but he is not the only one. Andy Cowell was key to the recent successes of Mercedes and Hamilton. Bob Bell also joined the Silverstone team a few months ago, having been a key player at McLaren in recent years.

Finally, Mike Krack and Tom McCullough, although they have been with the Aston Martin team for longer, have also changed roles in recent years and are important and influential figures in the team’s organizational chart.

Cardile closes the circle

Enrico Cardile is the last piece needed to complete the Aston Martin puzzle. The Italian aerodynamicist will be one of the keys to the aerodynamics of the AMR26, working hand in hand with Adrian Newey, and it is hoped that between them they will be able to get the most out of the new car’s regulations.

His signing took place several months ago, but the FIA has not allowed him to join the team until now. This is due to the regulations that engineers must follow when changing teams, which prohibit them from revealing secrets, and to a complaint from Ferrari.

Ferrari’s complaint

Ferrari was not very happy with the departure of Enrico Cardile to Aston Martin and did everything possible to boycott it. So much so that the Italian team took the Silverstone team to court, claiming that Cardile was already working with his new team before he was legally allowed to do so. The judge ruled in Ferrari’s favor and prohibited any contact between the engineer and the team until July. That moment is about to arrive.

It is common in F1 for engineers to change teams, and there is a law that prohibits immediate transfers between teams in order to prevent the disclosure of secrets or the use of work done at another team for the benefit of the new team. However, there are not many known cases in which one team has reported another for this, something that does not seem to have gone down very well with the team.

Aston Martin thus completes its internal organizational chart and puts an end to a restructuring process that has a clear objective: to be in the best possible shape for 2026, when they hope to make their assault on the F1 World Championship. They already have the best technology and one of the best teams on the grid. Now all that remains is for everyone to work together as one to optimize results and fight for their goals.

Cardile will begin working with Adrian Newey and Aston Martin’s team of engineers in just under a month, focusing exclusively on 2026, when there will be seven months to go before the start of the new F1 World Championship.
