The next Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, payment will only be rolling out on July 1st. This does not mean that the SSI for June has been missed, however. The payment for June just went out a little bit earlier and had been clearly marked as such on the Social Security Administration‘s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for 2025.
Here is what you need to know.
What is the Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?
The Supplemental Security Income is a monthly payment made to qualifying individuals such as disabled individuals and the elderly who have minimal or no alternate income and resources.
Adults, and in certain cases, children, can qualify for SSI monthly payments if they have the following (as stated on the official Social Security website):
- Little or no income, and
- Little or no resources, and
- A disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older.
Common resources such as vehicles and money in bank accounts should not exceed $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples in order to qualify for the Supplemental Security Income monthly payments.
Payment dates for the Supplemental Security Income can be found on the Social Security Administration’s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments alongside the payment dates for the regular Social Security benefit checks. The Supplemental Security Income payment is generally made on the first of each month, whilst the regular Social Security benefit check goes out on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month, depending on the date of birth of the recipient.
July 1st SSI payment — was June missed?
Beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income will have already noticed that no SSI payment has been scheduled for the month of June for this year — but what does this mean? Supplemental Security Income recipients need not fear that they will be short a SSI payment this year. This is because the month of May had not one, but two SSI payments — the second of which was intended for the month of June.
The first of June this year fell on a weekend which is not a working day, and as such, the Social Security Administration scheduled the June SSI payment a few days earlier. For this reason, the SSA calendar clearly has May 30 marked off for a Supplemental Security Income payment, with the next one only scheduled for July 1st, meaning that June is bypassed entirely.
By scheduling the SSI payment to the previous nearest working day, rather than after the 1st of June, the SSI beneficiaries would be able to access their funds for the month as the month began rather than facing a minor delay. As such, the next SSI payment will be made on July 1st as per the schedule. However, there are several other months throughout the year where there will be two SSI payments, one at the beginning and one at the end due to a similar reason as for June.
As such, even though at first glance it may seem like some months are being skipped over with regards to the Supplemental Security Income, a closer look at the payment schedule will reveal that the payment is merely going to be made a few days earlier — meaning that a SSI payment to cover every calendar month will still be accounted for.
As such, since there had not been a SSI payment in June, the next SSA payment will be rolling out on July 1st.
