Fernando Alonso has once again been one of the big losers in the FIA‘s decisions. It seems that all the important decisions made during the race never favor the Asturian driver, who always ends up being seriously disadvantaged. This was the case at the Canadian Grand Prix, where many drivers broke the rules out of ignorance. But Alonso, who knows everything by heart, did not commit any irregularities and claimed what was legally his. However, the FIA did not act in accordance with the regulations.

Drivers break the rules

The end of the Canadian Grand Prix was marked by an accident involving Lando Norris as he attempted to take a place from his teammate Oscar Piastri. The spectacular crash into the wall brought out a Safety Car that would not be withdrawn until the drivers approached the finish line. This is where the irregularity began. The safety car entered the pits so that the drivers could cross the finish line, but at no point was the end of the safety car announced. What’s more, during the lap back to the pits, once the race was over, the circuit’s light panels continued to show that they were in a Safety Car period.

However, as the race was over, many drivers overtook each other, a maneuver that is prohibited both during the race and once it has ended, under the safety car. But not everyone did so. Fernando Alonso, who was fully aware of the rules, strictly complied with them and is awaiting a penalty from the FIA at the end of the race.

Fernando Alonso calls for a penalty

Fernando Alonso complained, and rightly so, at the end of the race. The rules are clear, he knew them, and even if it is an exceptional situation, it should not exempt other drivers from knowing and complying with them.

“I hope to be fourth or fifth in a couple of hours.” “They overtook under the safety car and that’s not negotiable.”

Fernando Alonso was not wrong, and it was time to wait for the FIA’s decision, which took hours to arrive. Antonelli, Piastri, Leclerc, Ocon, Sainz, Stroll, and Gasly were investigated, with the first three finishing ahead of Fernando Alonso, meaning that he could have been fourth, which would have been a significant number of points for the Asturian and for the team.

The FIA decides not to penalize and once again hurts Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso has no luck with the decisions of the FIA. It seems that when he is involved, they always rule against him. And yesterday it happened again. After five hours of investigations and meetings with the drivers, the FIA did nothing and only warned the drivers that this would be penalized in subsequent races.

The curious thing is that this infringement is not new and it happened not so long ago. In the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Verstappen, Ocon, Gasly, and Hülkenberg committed the same infraction, and the FIA also let them off but warned that there would be no leniency if it happened again in the communication note issued after the investigation, stating that “subsequent infringements could result in significant penalties.” It’s interesting that Fernando Alonso already saw what was going to happen at the end of the race.

“I hope this isn’t one of those times when you have to remember that you can’t overtake with the safety car and we don’t do anything today.”

Well, he was wrong, and that’s how the FIA acted, a decision that once again went against Fernando Alonso, who, according to the rules, should have finished the race in fourth place and scored important points for himself and for Aston Martin.
