In addition to the regular Social Security benefit, the Social Security Administration (SSA) also pays another type of benefit known as the SSI, or Supplemental Security Income. According to the SSA’s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments which can be found on the agency’s website, the Supplemental Security Income check goes out to qualifying beneficiaries on the first of each month.

For June of this year, however, there had been no SSI payment made on the first of the month. This does not mean that beneficiaries missed out on a payment for 2025, however.

Here is what you need to know.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for June

A quick glance at the Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments may reveal a missed SSI payment on June 1st. However, a closer look at the schedule shows that not one, but two Supplemental Security Income payments had been scheduled for May — one on the first of May to be used for the month of May, and another SSI payment on May 30th to be used for the month of June.

This means that there would be no SSI payment made for the entirety of the month of June and as such, after May 30th, the next SSI payment will only come through to beneficiaries on July 1st. The reason for moving the June SSI payment up by a few days was because June 1st fell on a weekend which is not a working day. Rather than delaying the payment beyond the first of June to the next working day, the agency opted to bring forward the payment by a few days. This way, SSI beneficiaries would be able to have their SSI for June as the month began rather than facing a delay.

This early payment method is often adopted by the agency in such cases and the earlier payment dates are clearly stipulated on the benefit payment schedule. As such, beneficiaries do not need to do anything to receive their SSI benefit early if the first of the month falls on a non-working day. This sort of payment arrangement will occur again later in the year in September and November as well.

Listed below are the remaining dates for the year on which SSI payments will be rolled out, as per the SSA’s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments:

  • Tuesday, July 1, 2025 (SSI benefit for July 2025)
  • Friday, Aug. 1, 2025 (SSI benefit for August 2025)
  • Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (SSI benefit for September 2025)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 (SSI benefit for October 2025)
  • Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 (SSI benefit for November 2025)
  • Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (SSI benefit for December 2025)
  • Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (SSI benefit for January 2026)

Additionally, the SSA also notes the following on the benefit schedule:

  • “If you received Social Security before May 1997 or if receiving both Social Security & SSI, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st.”
  • “If you don’t receive your payment on the expected date, please allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.”

Who qualifies for SSI?

Much like the regular Social Security benefit program, the Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, is also a benefit program that provides an income to seniors aged 65 and older, the blind, and individuals with qualifying disabilities, who have very little or no other source of income. In certain cases, children may also qualify for SSI benefits.

In order for an adult to qualify for SSI, their monthly income needs to be below the threshold of $2,000 for an individual, and $3,000 for a couple. Additionally, “if you have a disability, you’ll also need to prove you’ve earned less than $1,550 from work per month in the month you’re applying. Citizens ages 65 or older don’t need to have a disability to get SSI,” as per the SSA’s website.
