Amid controversy over his future, Ter Stegen relaxes in Greece and introduces his new girlfriend

Fernando Alonso continues his climb with the AMR25 in the drivers’ standings. In Barcelona, he managed to avoid his worst start as a driver, thanks to his first two points, and with the six he scored in Canada, he now has eight points, still far behind, but with an upward trend.

The Oviedo-born driver is a born winner, and although at this stage of his career it does not seem to be one of his main concerns, finishing ahead of his teammate is always an incentive, and he is slowly closing in on Stroll. Aston Martin and the points

As we mentioned, at this stage of the race, few people will think that Stroll is better than Alonso or that the Canadian is having a better season than the Oviedo native because he is ahead of him in the standings. Stroll managed to score points in the first two races, finishing sixth and seventh, in races where incidents greatly favored him, when it was clear that the AMR25 was one of the worst cars on the grid. Since that day, the Canadian has not been able to contribute anything positive, unlike his teammate.

Fernando Alonso has had a bad start to the year, and apart from his debut year with Minardi, this year has been close to being the worst start of his career, scoring his first points in the ninth race, equaling his result in 2014, except that in that year, in the ninth race, he scored one point, and this year in Barcelona he scored two. However, before scoring points, the Oviedo native came very close to achieving them in races where, as he complained, nothing ever happened. Twice he finished eleventh while his teammate took the last and penultimate places.

It was clear that the Aston Martin was not scoring points, but it was also clear that Alonso did not deserve such punishment.

The improvements made by Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin

Finally, in Italy, Aston Martin introduced updates during a season and improved the car, something that had not happened in the last three seasons. It was enough to gain two tenths of a second per lap and move up in the standings. There have been four races with improvements, and the Asturian has put the AMR25 in Q3 in all four races and has scored points in the last two races, 2 and 6 points, to add to the 8 they now have in their tally.

Fernando Alonso’s numbers to beat Stroll

Lance Stroll finished sixth and seventh in his first two races, scoring 8 and 6 points for a total of 14. Therefore, Fernando Alonso would need to finish sixth in the next race and the Canadian would have to fail to score in order to overtake him. Given the trickle of points, but Aston Martin’s step forward, if Fernando Alonso manages to stay in the points regularly, he could catch up with his teammate in the next two or three races.

But we must remember the difference: 6 points is what separates each of the drivers, and very few believe that Alonso will finish behind his teammate, especially since the difference in quality is abysmal, even if the standings say otherwise. Because Fernando Alonso is looking higher, for now at Ocon, who has 22, we’ll see if he can climb even higher, but Albon has picked up a handful of interesting points this year and has shot up to 42, a figure that will be more difficult to match in the remainder of the season, although Fernando Alonso has only one goal: to gain confidence and win… in 2026.
