Fernando Alonso continues to work his magic with the AMR25, turning the seventh car on the grid into fifth thanks to his intelligence and experience in getting 200% out of the cars that pass through his hands. The best example of this was the race in Austria, where he delivered a masterpiece of driving and achieved his best result of the season thanks to his intelligence. This slight improvement for Aston Martin is due to the upgrades in Italy, and the next ones to arrive, as expected, are for Silverstone. It was thought that those coming this weekend would be the last of the year, but the Oviedo-born driver announced that there will also be upgrades in Belgium, three weeks after Silverstone.
Aston Martin and its work on the AMR25
The Silverstone factory is almost 100% focused on next season’s car, when the new FIA regulations come into force and Aston Martin hopes to be able to challenge at the top of the grid. However, work is still ongoing on the AMR25 to make it a competitive car between now and the end of the season. The main objective is not to make the car better so that it can fight with the frontrunners, but to confirm that the evolution and the path they are taking from the factory is on the right track. And it seems that they are achieving this for the moment.
After several years in which mid-season updates were a step backwards rather than an improvement, it seems that this year, after Aston Martin has completely changed, the updates are finally starting to work. It happened in Italy, when the AMR25 went from being the worst car on the grid to fighting for points every weekend. Five races have been run with the new package, and it was first noticeable in qualifying, and in the last three races it has been confirmed with top-10 finishes.
Of course, this is thanks to the magic of Fernando Alonso, who puts on a show every weekend. The improvements have not made the Aston Martin any faster, nor have they made it any quicker in the corners, but they have managed to stabilize the car enough to make it drivable, with less erratic behavior, which has allowed the Spaniard to squeeze the most out of the car without fear of accidents.
New improvements for Aston Martin
Although there has been no official confirmation, the weekend of July 4-6, this weekend, has been on the calendar for weeks. The AMR25 will receive new improvements that promise to improve the car’s aerodynamics, giving it more top speed, better slow cornering, and less degradation, three of the car’s weak points.
Initially, the team hinted that these would be the last updates, but Fernando Alonso, after the race in Austria, confirmed that there will also be something new at SPA, the next race after Silverstone, three weeks later.
What remains unclear is whether there will be any more updates that were not planned or whether the Silverstone updates will ultimately be rolled out in two batches, with the aim of optimizing data with each update.
Aston Martin’s expectations
Fernando Alonso has already commented in an interview that his goal for this season was to achieve a podium finish, something that seemed like a joke just a few weeks ago, but which is gradually generating excitement given what he is capable of doing with the current car. An improvement of two tenths could consolidate him as the fifth car on the grid and allow him to hassle the big names in the Grand Prix, fight for the top five and take advantage of race incidents to scratch out a spot on the podium.
Aston Martin continues to improve its 2025 car to be ready for 2026, and the new updates to the AMR25 could represent a significant leap forward for Fernando Alonso, who is looking forward to the second half of the championship with optimism.
