The tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother early this morning has shaken the world of soccer. At around 12:30 a.m., the soccer player’s vehicle left the road after one of its tires burst, and the strong impact caused the car to burst into flames. There was nothing the emergency services could do to save the lives of the two occupants.
The tragic accident involving Diogo Jota
Shortly after midnight, the 112 emergency services in Castilla y León received several calls alerting them to a car accident at kilometer 65 of the A-52 in the municipality of Cernadilla. Witnesses reported what appeared to be a tragedy: a car had lost control and left the road. The strong impact caused the vehicle to catch fire, and aided by the heat and nearby vegetation, the flames spread quickly and voraciously.
The Civil Guard, emergency services, firefighters, and ambulances arrived at the scene very quickly, but there was nothing they could do. Upon arrival, they could only confirm the death of two people, who could not be identified due to the violence of the crash, which had left everything completely charred.
As the hours passed, details emerged, such as the possible cause of the accident. The vehicle involved in the accident was attempting to overtake another vehicle when one of its tires burst, causing the car to lose control, veer off the road, and catch fire. The footballer and his brother were unlucky, but the vehicle they were attempting to overtake was not involved in the accident.
The Lamborghini was completely burned out.
Another detail that has emerged is how the footballer, Diogo Jota, and his brother, André Silva, were identified. When the police and emergency services arrived, it was impossible to recognize either of them, as everything had been destroyed by the flames. The only thing that could be recovered was the vehicle’s license plate, which led to the identification of the owner, Diogo Jota, and later that of his brother André. The two victims have been taken to the Forensic Anatomical Institute for autopsies to determine whether their deaths were caused by the strong impact or the fire that broke out after the accident.
A family tragedy
The death of the Liverpool footballer has been a huge blow to the world of soccer and to his family. The player had been married for just a week and a half, on June 22, to the mother of his three children. The fact that the second victim was his own brother leaves a family devastated, having lost two members in a single tragic moment.
André Silva was also a soccer player, in the Portuguese Second Division, and was only 25 years old. The tragic accident involving Diogo Jota has shaken the world of soccer and sport. Numerous soccer clubs and sports institutions have sent their condolences to his family and lamented the tragic event, which, unfortunately, is repeated every so often, causing devastation in society.
The most memorable case was that of José Antonio Reyes, a former player for Real Madrid and Sevilla, among others, who also lost his life six years ago in a similar tragic car accident, where fire also played a decisive role in the final outcome.
