Real Madrid has taken another step towards the long-awaited Club World Cup final. The Whites started the match against Borussia Dortmund in stunning fashion, taking a 2-0 lead within twenty minutes and displaying some outstanding football. They had the game under control until a crazy finish that ended with a 3-2 score after a penalty that saw Dean Huijsen sent off and ruled out of the semi-final, and Courtois prevented extra time with a superb save.
PSG beat Bayern
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich played an epic match on Saturday worthy of a Champions League final. The Parisian team, which ended the game with nine players, sealed the tie in the final minutes with goals from Desiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé (2-0).
Luis Enrique’s side started as one of the favorites to win the tournament after a great season and coming off a convincing and dominant victory in the Champions League final. However, it has not been easy to reach this final stage of the tournament, where the team wanted the last step to the coveted final to be a Real Madrid side that is still under construction but already showing remarkable performance.
A great game for the semifinals
Xabi Alonso is expecting a “great game” in the Club World Cup semifinals between his Real Madrid and PSG, coached by his compatriot Luis Enrique. “A great game, a great game. I think we had a Champions League rival today and now we’ll face the reigning Champions League champions, who are on a very positive run in recent months,” he said after the 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund that took them to the semifinals against PSG.
It was a victory with a heart-stopping finish that we must learn from, as the coach said, and Courtois is also clear that we must know how to close out games. “That’s football, all the teams here compete until the end and the game can go crazy. We didn’t give them any chances, only long-range shots. But the game changes and you get nervous. We have to learn to kill games with possession, not always look for the counterattack. We have to control games better,” he insisted.
Mbappé reunites with PSG a year later
Kylian Mbappé will be reunited with his former team, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), in the semifinals of the Club World Cup, almost a year and a month after his sensational signing for Real Madrid. With the long-awaited announcement of his signing in June 2024, the protracted saga in which the Whites tried to sign him over several summers came to an end. His departure did not hurt PSG, who finally won the Champions League that has eluded the striker.
