Joan Laporta continues to search for money wherever he can find it. No matter how much they sell, Barcelona’s situation is still not completely healthy, as we have seen recently with the failed signing of Nico Williams. The winger opted to renew with Athletic Club because he did not want to go through something similar to Dani Olmo and not know whether he would be able to be registered or not.
To avoid such complications, he preferred to stay at San Mamés, and now the club’s top brass is seeking income that could help bring the club back to normalcy, although it will not be easy. Barcelona announced the signing of Joan García weeks ago, while in recent hours it announced the renewal of Szczesny for the next two seasons.
Given that teams usually have two top-level goalkeepers, the Catalan also has the company of Ter Stegen and Iñaki Peña. The sporting director is looking for a way out for both, but the situations are very different. The youth player is aware that Hansi Flick is not keen on him and wants to leave to get more playing time, but he is waiting for an opportunity that convinces him.
In the case of the German, there are more problems. Ter Stegen is one of the captains and spent last season on the sidelines. His idea is to fight for a place, but the signing of Joan García has practically closed the door on him. Another of his wishes is to be Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, but without playing time at Camp Nou, this will not be possible. This is being used by Barcelona as pressure to get him to agree to leave and free up his high salary to lighten the wage bill, and it will be when he reunites with Hansi Flick after the holidays that they will have that final chat.
Two surprise levers
In recent years, with the economic situation of Barcelona at its most delicate, we have become accustomed to hearing about levers. Joan Laporta has sold part of the club’s assets to raise the money needed to sign and register players. That is why any income is welcome at the Camp Nou offices, and this summer they could receive a few million if two players who have already left end up being transferred.
One of them is Óscar Mingueza, who currently plays for Real Club Celta de Vigo. The defender, who plays for the Spanish national team,‘s contract expires on June 30, 2026, so the Galician club has tried to negotiate his renewal. For now, it seems that the versatile defender has no intention of extending his stay at Balaídos, so there are two options for the Vigo club: either a transfer or letting him leave for free at the end of next season.

Another name that is exciting fans at Camp Nou is Mika Mármol. The Egarense player still has a lot of room for improvement, and with the relegation of Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, it seems unlikely that he will continue in Gran Canaria. He also has a contract with the yellow team until June 30, 2026, and everything points to him leaving the team this summer to continue in the top flight of Spanish soccer.

Barcelona owns 50% of both players, which means that Las Palmas and Celta, if they transfer them, will only keep half of the money received. That is why the Canary Islanders and Vigo-based club are only willing to sell for the release clause, although if the end of the summer approaches, they will have to give in and accept lower offers. Mingueza has a €20 million release clause and Mika Mármol has a €10 million release clause, so in the best-case scenario, if they are transferred for that amount, Barcelona would receive a maximum of €15 million.
