Dilemma with Ceballos: Back to square one at Real Madrid

Confirmed: Rodrygo to leave Real Madrid, and several top clubs are already in the race

Real Madrid has focused all its efforts this summer on strengthening its battered defense. The team has already signed center back Dean Huijsen and right back Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the Club World Cup. Both were starters from the moment they arrived, although their performances have been mixed. With the defense in mind, the third signing was delayed ahead of the tournament, but Álvaro Carreras is now a done deal and will strengthen the left side of the Whites’ defense. His arrival may not be the last for the defense, as the arrival of another center back has not been ruled out.

Central dilemma at Real Madrid

Real Madrid have had an obvious problem in central defense throughout the season due to multiple injuries that have greatly affected the starting lineup. These absences allowed Asencio to rise to prominence and become an undisputed starter. However, the youngster’s World Cup performance left much to be desired, with three grotesque errors that relegated him to the bench.

The player who came out of the World Cup stronger was newcomer Dean Huijsen, who has been solid at the back and good with the ball. He has earned his place in the starting lineup, but it remains to be seen who will accompany him. Eder Militao has returned from injury and it remains to be seen what condition he is in after several serious injuries. The same goes for Rüdiger, who made an uncharacteristic mistake against PSG. The latest player to cause controversy is Alaba, who has been shown the door and is struggling with injuries while playing as the fifth center back. In addition, both he and the German player’s contracts expire next summer.

Konaté is the chosen one

Ibrahima Konaté began the final year of his contract on July 1. He is a player who is very popular at Real Madrid, which is following him closely. The player seems determined to play for the Whites and the deal is progressing. At 26, he has proven to be one of the most complete center backs on the scene today. With a 71.3% success rate in aerial duels, 4.63 clearances per game, and elite passing statistics, coupled with great physical power, he is a great option for the Whites. He has vision, precision, and experience on the big stage.

Two options for his arrival

His signing for Real Madrid seems like a done deal, and the only thing left to be decided is when. There are two options on the table. The main and preferred option is to wait until next summer when he will be available on a free transfer and to continue this season with the five center backs already on the roster.

If Xabi Alonso demands the signing of a center back now, there is also an option. Liverpool has accepted that it will lose the player and prefers to make money from the deal. Diario AS reports that Real Madrid is considering this possibility and is willing to pay between €20 million and €25 million for Ibrahima Konaté this summer, but no more.

However, according to the same source, Liverpool wants at least €50 million for Ibrahima Konaté this summer. Real Madrid is not considering paying that amount, as it now knows that Konaté has decided to sign for them anyway.
