Is a 2025 stimulus check coming? This is the question on the minds of many Americans, and it seems like the answer is no. After weeks of speculation, Congress passed President Donald Trump’s sweeping legislation package, named the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” on July 3, and the answer appears to be no, at least for now.
Despite promises from President Trump, especially during the campaign, the final version of the bill, which passed after nearly four days of internal debate, does not include any provisions for a stimulus check.
What’s Actually in the “Big Beautiful Bill”?
The One Big Beautiful Bill represents one of the largest policy overhauls in years. It includes big changes to Medicaid, tax codes, Medicare, and business incentives. The largest cut falls on Medicaid, with nearly $1 trillion expected to be slashed from the program over the next decades.
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, 11.8 million Americans would be uninsured by 2034. Before the bill passed narrowly by just four votes, the cuts to Medicare sparked heated debates in both chambers of Congress. It was noted that all Democratic members and Republicans, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Thomas Massie of Kentucky, voted against the bill.
No Stimulus in Sight
The idea of stimulus checks did not gain traction in Congress, and it was no surprise that it missed in the mega-bill. This means that even though Trump had previously floated that he would consider a payment made from savings from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), it continues to be a proposal that will probably never happen.
That idea was first introduced in February, the same day reporting revealed that DOGE’s website had published misleading information, including “a nearly $8 billion error.” The controversy and data discrepancies ultimately derailed any momentum for a new round of stimulus tied to DOGE.
Some Americans Got Stimulus Checks
Although there are no stimulus checks in 2025, some Americans received stimulus checks issued by the IRS. However, only those who had not claimed the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns were eligible.
These stimulus checks were meant to help those who never received their original stimulus payments during the COVID-19 pandemic. The IRS found out that many eligible individuals had failed to file the proper paperwork.
According to the IRS, the stimulus payments were issued in December and January, and eligible individuals received up to $1,400.
Conclusion
Despite online speculations and political promises, it has been confirmed that there will be no 2025 stimulus checks tied to the One Big Beautiful Bill. This means that financial pressures will still be experienced, and even more now, given the current cuts to social safety nets like Medicaid.
