Real Madrid is making progress in the transfer market, where it is evaluating the possibility of bringing in more players as long as there are departures, but it also has loose ends with the current squad that it must resolve in the coming days. Thus, once Courtois’ renewal is finalized, pending signature, the Whites are working to also seal the future of Brahim and Asencio. Despite the lack of prominence of both players in the Club World Cup, they are part of Real Madrid’s future plans.
Courtois renewal
With the transfer market on hold, Real Madrid has focused on securing the future of the current squad, and the first item on the to-do list was to finalize the renewal of Thibaut Courtois. His reliability between the sticks, as he demonstrated once again during the Club World Cup, is under contract until June 2026, but the club wanted to extend that contract for another year, until 2027. The agreement is complete and the deal is expected to be signed before the start of the season.
Brahim, next in line
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz will sign a new contract with the club, following in the footsteps of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Both deals are already done and will be formalized in the coming days. The Malaga-born player’s renewal was already announced by Daniel Cayetano in Bernabéu Digital. There has been complete harmony between both parties from the outset, meaning that the contract extension, which currently runs until 2027, is about to be signed.
This renewal comes at a difficult time for the player. Xabi Alonso believes he has great potential that he wants to exploit more than Ancelotti has done, but he barely played during the Club World Cup. There always seems to be someone ahead of him, and his participation in the tournament has been minimal, correct but secondary. Despite this situation, and despite having offers to leave, the player is putting the team first, where he hopes to earn a place in the absence of Bellingham and the more than likely departure of Rodrygo.
Asencio to renew despite poor World Cup
As we said, Brahim had few minutes, but he was correct during the World Cup. However, Raúl Asencio’s participation was far from what led him to be a starter during the season with Carlo Ancelotti. The youth player made three blunders and avoidable mistakes during the tournament that have condemned him to lose ground and not be among Xabi Alonso’s priorities for the starting lineup.
Despite his poor performance, the player had already agreed to a contract renewal until 2030, which will also be signed in the coming weeks. He will undoubtedly lose prominence, and the team has not ruled out signing a center back this summer, but the potential shown by the player suggests that the most sensible move would be to renew his contract and secure his future, whatever the final decision may be.
What seems clear is that Asencio has lost his place in the starting line-up after the World Cup, with Rüdiger and Eder Militao returning from injury and newcomer Dean Huijsen proving to be the best center back in the current squad.
