In principle, Rodrygo is not part of Xabi Alonso’s plans for the Real Madrid team he wants to build to bring back titles, but his departure is becoming complicated. On the one hand, there is the player’s desire to stay, on the other hand, the lack of decision by his suitors, some of whom are opting for other options on the market, and finally, there are the financial demands of the player and the club, which are not facilitating his departure. If he stays, the player knows that he will be a secondary player unless there is a complete change in his attitude and performance.
Rodrygo is not in Real Madrid’s plans
Xabi Alonso is very clear about what he wants for Real Madrid, and Rodrygo is not part of the coach’s plans. In a matter of months, the forward has become a bit-part player for the team, which would prefer to sell him. The Brazilian’s season has been more shadow than light, and he has not played for the team since April.
When he arrived, the coach was well aware of the situation with the player and still wanted to give him a vote of confidence, but the situation has not improved and during the World Cup he continued to show a passive attitude on the pitch, lacking motivation and desire and not getting involved in defensive tasks, something that Xabi Alonso emphasizes a lot. The consequence of this attitude was that he did not return to the starting line-up and even spent a large part of the tournament without playing.
This is something that is very likely to happen to him during the season. The player has always been in favor of continuing with the Whites, but there is a World Cup this summer and if he wants to go with Brazil and be important, he knows he has to play, and that is not guaranteed with the Whites.
Suitors fade away
Many teams have been linked with a move for him, but the truth is that none have taken the step of putting an offer on the table. In addition, several of the teams that were in the running have opted for other, cheaper options with, in principle, better guaranteed performance, which complicates a departure that Real Madrid is keen to make in order to make last-minute moves in the transfer market.
In the case of Bayern Munich, the signing of Luis Díaz from Liverpool for around €80 million is looking increasingly likely. Liverpool were considering Rodrygo to replace him, but have not yet made a move for the Real Madrid player.
Arsenal has always been the main suitor, but between the signing of Gyokeres and the fact that, according to Rodra, the London club is not willing to pay the high salary that Rodrygo’s team is asking for, it seems that the deal is also falling through.
Tottenham has also shown interest in the player, but for the Brazilian, moving to the London club would be a step down, and he does not seem willing to do so. Therefore, the suitors are dwindling and the option of staying at Real Madrid seems increasingly likely.
The option of staying on the table
Although there is still a lot to be decided in the transfer market, the possibility remains that Rodrygo will stay at Real Madrid if no offer is made that satisfies both parties. Real Madrid is very clear that it does not count on him, but it is not going to give him away. In that case, his presence in the team will depend largely on the striker himself and a change of attitude that convinces Xabi, who does not hesitate to leave galácticos on the bench, as he has already demonstrated during the Club World Cup.
