Carlos Sainz is once again facing the weekend with optimism, but aware that his season is far from what he expected. At the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix, the Madrid native has a good chance with his Williams, as the FW47 should be well suited to the circuit, and he hopes that it will be time for a good result to turn the season around.
Carlos Sainz, looking forward to the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix
Carlos Sainz has always shown himself to be very cool and able to forget the past, whether good or bad. Things are not going well at the moment, but the driver born in the Spanish capital is looking forward to the start of the last Grand Prix before the second break of the summer.
“I‘m looking forward to getting back in the car to try out our new package in a normal weekend format, with several free practice sessions to work on. It’s a circuit where it’s always fun to drive and it looks like it will be mostly dry, so I hope we can be strong in this last race. The team has worked very hard all year and it will be nice to finish on a high note before everyone enjoys a well-deserved break.”
A change of trend
Carlos Sainz is confident that this second half of the season will bring a change, especially in terms of results, as he is more aware than anyone that this has been a bad year for him. But he believes that once he manages to put together a good weekend, the rest will follow.
“There are better and worse years, because of the equipment or how things are going. It also happens in the Tour de France, where we’re not doing very well. There are better and worse years.” But “when a result comes, the rest will come easier. There hasn’t been a race yet that has led to many better ones, and that’s how this sport works.“
Carlos Sainz has proven throughout his long career that he has speed, and he knows that sooner or later, he could prove it again. ”The speed hasn’t gone anywhere. Now we have a car to get into the top 10, but luck isn’t on our side.”
Options for the Hungarian Grand Prix
In principle, the characteristics of the Williams should suit the Hungarian circuit, so he expects a good result from the team, although he is aware that the FW47 is no longer as superior in the midfield as it was at the start of the season.
“In terms of performance, we should be on a par with Austria or Barcelona, but I hope that with the improvement we can fight for a point or two.” “At the halfway point of the season, we were the team with the most points in the midfield, but we were being caught up and the competition was tougher. Spa gave us some breathing space.”
The end of the season and 2026
The Madrid native believes that Williams‘ performance is satisfactory and hopes that they can maintain fifth place in the constructors’ championship until the end of the season, although, as he acknowledges, his sights are set on 2026, when everything could change and he hopes the team can take a step forward.
“It will be a success to finish fifth in the championship, it would show the positive direction. In my case, I was quite fast right away and we just have to get results and put everything together. It’s a fight from the start and we’re only in race 12.” However, “I didn’t come here for the 2025 results. I came for the potential of 2026, 2027, and 2028. The more I am with the team, the better I see things. And at the same time, there are many things to work on. We have to keep our heads down, and this year’s results will have something to say for next year.”
