Aston Martin has undergone a radical change, especially when compared to the car’s position just a week ago, when they finished last in qualifying at Spa. However, nothing could be further from the truth, and although there have been some changes to the car, Fernando Alonso acknowledged that this is all due to the track being well suited to the characteristics of the AMR25.
Radical change for Aston Martin
A week ago, we were lamenting Aston Martin’s poor results, which saw them achieve their worst qualifying performance ever, but this past weekend we experienced the complete opposite, with the team’s best race of the season so far. Fernando Alonso crossed the finish line in Hungary in fifth place, and Lance Stroll did so in seventh, achieving the best result of the current season.
Fernando Alonso himself explained the main reasons for this. “To be honest, I would say it depends on the characteristics of the track. We haven’t changed the car much since Spa. I think the characteristics of the circuit have suited our car, and it would be good to understand why the car works so well here, because if we understood that, we could make better use of it in the next few races.”
Aston Martin updates
If significant progress was already made at Imola, it seems that the latest updates at Silverstone have achieved the goal for the car, which was initially designed to perform well in slow corners and now also seems to be adapting to fast corners, as seen in Hungary.
Then came the new wing from Belgium, which could hardly be tested, firstly because weather problems prevented the necessary data from being collected, and secondly because the race was a sprint and there was no practice to get the most out of it. In addition, the wing was not designed for such high-speed circuits, but rather for circuits with more corners, such as Hungary.
A successful setup
What Aston Martin did achieve this weekend was to optimize its resources. The fact that the car remained unchanged does not mean that the setup was not changed, a job carried out by Krack ahead of qualifying and the subsequent race. The result was an easy-to-drive Aston Martin that flew around the track, finishing in the top five on the grid, something unthinkable a week ago, and even unthinkable after qualifying, where Verstappen and Hamilton were expected to finish ahead.
Aston Martin’s goals
Aston Martin’s goals between now and the end of the season are to understand the car’s real behavior and thus be able to adapt its characteristics to each circuit. With this result, Aston Martin confirms that things are being done right since Silverstone, that the new parts are working, and that the team’s evolution is now a reality. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and continue optimizing results for 2026, because that is the team’s real goal: to be ready for when the new season starts, to be able to react like the best, like the teams fighting to be at the top of the F1 World Championship.
Aston Martin has changed, the AMR25 has changed, and now it’s time to keep pushing in the same direction, starting on the track and ending at a factory that seems to be slowly getting back on track after a difficult start to the season.
