The Barcelona wants to return to the Camp Nou as soon as possible. After several attempts, the date marked in red on the calendar is now September for LaLiga matchday 4 against Valencia or, at the latest, for the home debut in the Champions League. Uncertainty remains as to whether they will be able to do so, but the Blaugrana club has decided, perhaps as a way of applying pressure, to share images of the stadium showing that it is making great strides towards meeting the deadlines.

The latest striking image shared on social media is of the Camp Nou at night, with the sprinklers watering the newly installed turf. In addition, the lights in the stands above the first ring also appear to be working properly, giving the area of the stadium the appearance that the public could enter and occupy those seats. However, in the end, this is all just appearances, and it will be up to those responsible for analyzing safety to study the actual condition of the entrances and other parts of the venue.
Camp Nou, against the clock
Work on Camp Nou continues apace in order to meet the new deadlines and be ready for Barcelona‘s LaLiga EA Sports debut in mid-September, when they host Valencia in the Catalan capital. Joan Laporta, the club and the players all want to be able to return home on that date, but it will be up to those responsible for granting the license to decide. The really important thing is to be ready for the home debut in the Champions League, because if they don’t make it, they will have to play the entire group stage of Europe’s top competition at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
That is why every day counts, and counts a lot, to see if Joan Laporta can finally keep his word, as he has repeatedly stated throughout 2025 that they could return to Camp Nou, something that has not happened. The latest was for the Joan Gamper Trophy, as the Blaugrana club announced with great fanfare that they would be there on Sunday, August 10, playing against Como, but in the end they did not obtain the necessary licenses for the partial opening of the venue and that is why they had to thrash Cesc Fábregas’ Italian team at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
Waiting for a decision
The Camp Nou will have to undergo a new technical inspection to determine whether it is safe to reopen the stadium, but the European Club Association (ECA) discovered more than 200 deficiencies in its preliminary report several weeks ago, and Barcelona has been working to resolve them, but not all have been resolved, so it seems to be a priority to do so. Once this has been done, those responsible for granting the necessary permits will decide whether Barça can return in mid-September.
El Barcelona wants to open the Camp Nou with 27,000 spectators, who would have to sit in the Tribuna and Gol Sur stands. Throughout this week or next, they would like to have the authorization from the company responsible for the renovation so that the City Council can then approve the stadium, which has been closed for two seasons, for all Barça fans. That is why the next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether the Azulgranas will be granted the first occupancy license, because if they are not, Joan Laporta will have broken his word once again.
