Here’s exactly how much the new 2.8% Social Security raise will add to your $2,000 check – the government has confirmed the new COLA will boost your payment by $56 a month

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that it will be sending out a second Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment this Friday. This will be the last SSI payment until December.

As much as extra money sounds exciting, beneficiaries must remember that this is not an extra payment, but rather just a schedule adjustment made by the SSA. The reason for this is that the SSA sends out SSI payments on the 1st of every month, however, if the 1st falls on a weekend or government holiday, the payment will be sent on the last business day of the previous month.

Why There’s a Second SSI Payment in October

Since November 1st falls on a Saturday, therefore the SSI payment for November, will be made on the 31st of October 2025. This simply means that beneficiaries will receive two SSI payments in October.

It is important that beneficiaries understand the payment schedule so that they can plan ahead and not get stressed when they don’t receive a payment on the 1st of November.

Who Will Receive the Payment

The payment on the 31st of October will be for SSI recipients only. SSI is intended to assist those with low incomes and resources, such as certain children with special needs, persons with disabilities, and older adults 65 and older.

If you receive both SSI and Social Security benefits, your payments will be sent on different schedules: Social Security on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on your birthdate, and SSI at the beginning of the month (or earlier, as in this case).

What To Expect This Friday

The upcoming October 31 payment will arrive through the same method you normally receive your benefits, either direct deposit or your Direct Express debit card.

Should your payment not arrive by the end of Friday, wait at least three business days before contacting them. You can also check your online Social Security account for updates.

How To Manage the Double Payment

You won’t receive an SSI payment in November therefore it’s important to budget the second payment in October.

Here are a few tips to stay on track:

  1. Make sure you keep money aside for November’s expenses. Separate the money so you don’t accidently spend it early.
  2. Use it to pay future expenses. Rent, utilities, or medical bills that are due at the beginning of November are frequently paid with the early payment.
  3. Go through your benefit statement to make sure all your payment amounts are correct. You can log onto your online Social Security account and check this.

Looking Ahead to December

It’s important for beneficiaries to know that the next SSI payment will only come on the 1st of December 2025.

December’s payment will also reflect the current benefit rate before the January 2026 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase takes effect.

The COLA is meant help beneficiaries keep up with the rising costs of inflation.

The Bottom Line

On Friday the 31st of October, SSI beneficiaries will receive a second SSI deposit. This payment is actually November’s payment arriving early. The reason for this is because the 1st of November falls on a Saturday.

With that being said, beneficiaries should be mindful to keep aside money for November’s expenses as there will be no SSI payment in November. This is the perfect time to also start preparing for the holiday season.

Make sure you plan ahead and budget accordingly. Be sure you check your benefit statement to view your benefits and follow the SSA website for verified information regarding Social Security benefits.
