Koundé has two options: Manchester City or renewing with Barcelona

Real Madrid is clear that it needs to strengthen its midfield. It’s a request from Xabi Alonso, but the problem is that Florentino only has one name in mind, as he doesn’t want to waste money on a player who isn’t 100% convincing. The main problem is that he is not currently on the market and Manchester City is not willing to negotiate his three-figure price tag. For this reason, the Whites have made a decision. They want to see how the player responds after his serious injury and then, next summer, when he enters the final year of his contract, they will make a move and try to reduce his asking price.

Rodri is Florentino’s wish

The problem in Real Madrid’s midfield is nothing new. The club has gone from having the best midfield of the last decade with Toni Kroos and Modric to being left without a star player. Xabi Alonso wants reinforcements and, although he is open to several names, Florentino is clear about his preference for midfield: Rodri. He has had the Spanish midfielder’s name on his agenda for years and would only be willing to spend money on the Spanish international.

However, it is not a signing for this summer as Manchester City is not willing to negotiate the three-figure price they would currently ask for the player. In addition, Real Madrid has decided to wait and see how he performs throughout the season after the complicated injury that kept him out of action for much of last season. If the player performs as usual, steps will be taken to force negotiations next summer.

Renewal VS signing

The Spanish international’s contract expires in 2027 and City wants to finalize his renewal as soon as possible. They know that if they don’t, there could be problems next summer because he would only have one year left on his contract, and that’s where Real Madrid comes in. They are closely monitoring Rodri’s situation to begin talks and convince the player to move to the Santiago Bernabéu, which would force Pep Guardiola’s side to lower their asking price and negotiate the player’s departure rather than lose him for free.

Kroos chooses Rodri

Toni Kroos is very much present in the white team’s current affairs, as he always has words for a club that has marked his career and, moreover, he knows that his departure from the club has left a void that is difficult to fill. “Look at what happened to Manchester City after a player like Rodri got injured. The thing is, a good central midfielder or defensive pivot is missed… when he’s not there. When they’re there, it’s taken for granted, it’s like you don’t notice them, like everything is in order and then the forwards can finish off the games with ease,“ he explained in an interview with El País Semanal. ”One thing is clear, and that is that the central midfielder position is fundamental in modern football, there’s no doubt about that,” Kroos told EPS.
