There is still more than a month left before the transfer window closes, and Barcelona continues to comb through it in order to sign a player who will arrive in the Catalan capital to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad, and one of the names being mentioned is Denzel Dumfries. Right now, the Catalan club has managed to sign players such as Joan García, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji, although the latter’s future is still in doubt, as he could go out on loan or be registered with the reserve team to play under Juliano Belletti, even though he is part of the first-team squad. However, he still has to be assessed by the German coach, who is taking him on the Asian tour.
The goal is well covered with Joan García, who arrived from Espanyol, and Szczesny, who has been renewed for two seasons. It remains to be seen what will happen with Marc-André Ter Stegen and where Iñaki Peña will end up. There are plenty of top-level players in midfield and there do not appear to be any moves in this area of the pitch, nor in attack, as the arrival of Marcus Rashford joins Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres.
Barça looking for defenders
However, the sporting director still has to find new teams for several players who have been discarded by Barcelona. Iñaki Peña, Oriol Romeu, and Pau Víctor are on their way out and hope to be transferred in the coming weeks. There are more doubts surrounding Ter Stegen, as the German will undergo surgery and be out for several months, as he himself has reported, declaring a kind of war on Barcelona. Another player who has been discarded and is wanted by Saudi Arabia is Andreas Christensen, as he is currently the fifth center back behind Ronald Araújo, Pau Cubarsí, Íñigo Martínez, and Eric García.
There are no doubts at left-back with Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martín, but on the other side there is only Jules Koundé, who has been converted to right-back, where he is performing quite well, but his preference is to play as a center back. That is why the sporting management is looking for a player in that position and they have found one who stands out above all others, Denzel Dumfries, who could leave Inter Milan this summer to embark on a new adventure away from Serie A.
Dumfries’ clause
Denzel Dumfries has a €25 million release clause, but it expires on July 31, which means that Barcelona or any club that wants the Dutch international will have to hurry to reach an agreement with him because time is running out.
Once the aforementioned date has passed, negotiations will have to take place with Inter Milan, and various sources suggest that they will not let the speedy defender leave for less than €40 million, meaning that his transfer could cost almost double his current value.
Barcelona would be interested in Denzel Dumfries, but the Blaugranas’ financial situation does not help matters. Firstly, because they must secure those $25 million before July 31, although the loan of Marcus Rashford has saved them a significant amount, as the other options were to pay for Nico Williams or Luis Díaz. The other major drawback is the player’s registration, as it must be remembered that new signings cannot be registered in LaLiga until Barça complies with the 1:1 rule, so they must reduce their wage bill before they can start considering new signings.
